This style of fender does have an aerodynamic advantage over stock. This style of fender creates more downforce by allowing air that is normally trapped under the vehicle to exit to the side. There is more science to it but basically by allowing the air to exit in this area you creat a little more downforce and also help illeviate some of the aerodynamic drag. I could draw it out on a dry erase board for you

Create more downforce is a nice thought, but it isn't a good thing in normal operation of a vehicle...this is a very track oriented fender. For a street vehicle it is increasing the drag coefficient as air passes not just underneath, but also to the side at a high velocity. It's just another pressure 'wall' for air to hit and slow you down / rob you of fuel / yada yada yada. You do gain a little in that the fender wall is cut away slightly, though. I'm not sure what the overall effect is without wind-tunnel testing the design and seeing what you get.

It just looks so odd. The 370Z is a very 'organic' design, and this is akin to taking a scalpel to it and lopping off a huge chunk of it. Not sure what to think yet. Get it painted and photoshot.

These are teasers. I will have video and pictures of the fenders after SEMA. For those who dont think it flows well... these pictures were meant to give the concept. This is an aggressive design and that will complement the kit that is already on the car.

We can design an Adapter/Cover piece for those who have to have one for the lower cut away section.

Also as far as hurting your gas mileage I highly doubt it... having my car... WILL LOL!!!

Thats not the complete fender... Your missing the diffuser plate that hides the whole cutaway and the side skirt as well that is all attached.

Meet:

Its a nice kit just really expensive and for the 350z!

Wandered to DTM's Facebook, this is the 'teaser' you speak of? Concept? Or is this the production piece?

And while I appreciate you could care less about your car's mileage, given your performance goals, I was simply speaking from an engineering / physics standpoint. I am not insinuating you instantaneously turn into a Hummer for MPG. I may be wrong as I am a bit rusty on my aerodynamics, but it just seems to me that for typical use AND IN THE LONG RUN, the increased drag coefficient doesn't help the typical driver who may look at this as a 'performance part'. It's track oriented, or done just for looks.

But whatever, if you'd like to laugh at my questioning, then I'm not going to bother.

I know that fender from the superleggera, that doesn't mean it can't be made just like in the first picture without the cf cover or adapted to the 370z. It was a suggestion since IMO it makes it look more refined. That is all.

Phelan,

You know for a fact I am not poking fun at you. Simply put the fender will not be increasing the drag coefficient to cause even a single mpg loss... I was however making fun that my car probably has the mileage of a hummer at this moment.
