Rear Spoiler Removal

I know there have been posts regarding the rear spoiler removal however, I do not see anyone who has actually attempted it. I really want all the other features of the sports package but dislike the look of the rear spoiler.

Has anyone successfully taken off the rear spoiler either by themselves or with professional assistance?

If so, how labor intensive was it ? How much touch up work was required and were there holes to fill up ?

SoCal 370Z 05-10-2009 12:53 AM

You will have to go to a body shop and have the holes filled for the bolts that hold the spoiler to the trunk lid from the inside.

The rear center brake light also appears incorporated into the rear spoiler, no?

I stand corrected :). Impressive how well it all blends together when the spoiler is installed.

Exchange..............

If you are not in a hurry to spend a lot of money in the body shop, think about this. Try to find someone in your area that has a none sport 370 that is the same color as your car. Maybe they could be talked into exchanging hatch's? Saves everyone alot of money in the end. Now if you are in a hurry and can't wait for more cars to develop in your area, all bets are off.

I know it's not what you were asking, but I really like the spoiler for what it's worth.

I like the rear spoiler however i didn't get the sports pkg...so i dont have one...was wonder what ppl do when the get them taken off?

frost 05-11-2009 08:25 PM

^ sell them to guys who like them but didn't buy the sport package :D

If you look at the first diagram posted by SoCal you can see the way the spoiler curves on the left and right side near the center so it just "sits" over the 3rd light. It doesn't appear be attached to the spoiler.

It looks like it but it's not. The picture I posted was the US version car. Dare to take your spoiler apart to find out the truth? ;)

ChrisSlicks 05-11-2009 10:08 PM

Perhaps the sport and non-sport have a different hatch? I don't see the bump across the back on mine hiding under the spoiler as shown on the silver one.

I think this link might answer the question about the rear spoiler and the brake light:

Nissan Spoilers - Nissan Car Spoiler 370Z, Altima, Maxima, Versa

If you scroll down about 1/4 of the page you'll see what I mean. It shows that the spoiler is available painted or unpainted and no light is included.

Also, they use the term "rear spoiler with integrated 3rd brake light" and the word "integrated" means: combining or coordinating separate elements so as to provide a harmonious, interrelated whole. So wouldn't that mean the light is part of the trunk and the spoiler is a separate part making it appear to be one piece?

TacoZ 05-12-2009 01:33 AM

I didn't like the spoiler at first...but then I saw it in person and it flows very nicely with the car. Now there's no way I would get one without the spoiler.

However, if you factory ordered the car then maybe you can tell them that you want the sports package minus the rear spoiler. I'm sure they can do something for you if it's factory ordered from japan.

By literal definition it would mean the that spoiler includes the 3rd brake light, and that it is not a separate piece. I'm going to go take a close up look at mine right now - but I'm not taking it apart :)

SoCal 370Z 05-12-2009 10:53 AM

The factory spoiler does NOT include the third brake light—it is designed to flow around it and make use of the standard third brake light on all 370Zs.

ChrisSlicks 05-12-2009 10:56 AM

Yep, SoCal is right - I just looked at it up close.

If I looked at the diagram in the second post it should have been obvious.

Just like I said earlier. ;)

Rear Spoiler Removal

I totally agree I love the look of the car with out the rear spoiler and I even asked the dealer if I could just order a hatch without the spoiler and have them swap it. But I'm sure the cost of a whole hatch would be a couple
grand. lol

hey everyone... i'm new here. i bought a rear spoiler for my base 370 z from e-bay (a girl had her replaced with a nismo kit) thinking i got a good deal since i got it for a lot cheaper... until i went to a local body shop to find out the grommets to attach it is missing, tried to contact the seller but that's history. anyways, just seeing if anybody can help me with this, like any other means of installing it - adhesive only, or somewhere to buy the kit. thanks.....
