yah that's a good looking knob.

SPOHN 08-08-2011 05:40 PM

Nice. Nice price also

Astrosfan 08-10-2011 03:46 PM

so...... what do you guys think? short or long?
I'd like to see one on a 370z but i cant find any pics

Dustin@Z1 08-10-2011 03:51 PM

I actually have one on my personal 300zx. They are light weight and do not transfer heart from the transmission or absorb heat from the sun. Its simple in design not to bulky.

It is not weighted like most other shifters on the market. Some people claim to like the weighted shifter feel, but I personally do not care either way. If I can get our shop 370Z for a few minutes, I will snap some shots.

Btw...I have the Long version of the Duracon Knob installed. The short is about the size of a NISMO shift Knobm where as the Long version is roughly 3.5".

For fitment sake. Shape your hand in the form of an "o" with the tip of your pointer finger touching your thumb. Now measure the width across your hand from your pointer finger to your picky. That will give you an idea of the size shift knob and how it will fit. I chose the 90mm version since my hand is roughly 3" across (based on above measurements).

waiting for pics :)
very interested

Thread resurrection.

I bought the 90mm knob from Z1 but I am having fitment issues. The knob will not reach the threads on the shifter when I try and use the finisher that Z1 supplied with it, and even when I use it without the finisher, the knob only grabs one or two threads on the shifter before it bottoms out. As a result, I stripped the first couple threads in the knob. Am I doing something wrong here?

Here are some pics for reference:

With finisher, will not reach the threads:

Without finisher, bottoms out on the wide black part of the shifter and only grabs one or two threads:

Just the shifter threads, for reference:

kenchan 02-19-2014 12:32 PM

you got the wrong pitch thread, probably... :ugh:

kenchan 02-19-2014 12:35 PM

M10x1.25 is wat you want.

kenchan 02-19-2014 12:35 PM

.. or just too short? remove that pilot bushing.

fuct 02-19-2014 01:12 PM

yea that silver bushing looks like it will slide off, no? that will give you alot more thread.

Rulez 02-19-2014 01:37 PM

I checked the thread pitch and it's the right one. I ordered it from Z1, so I doubt they would've sent the wrong one anyway.

I removed the silver bushing, same problem. Still won't thread on. The issue is the opening on the bottom of the knob. Its bottoming out where the shifter widens after the threads.

that sucks. was this knob sold as a 370z compatible knob? the hell... they should just give you a refund or replacement for another design knob.

It's under "370z Performance" on their site, so I can't imagine it'd be for any other car, lol.

http://www.z1motorsports.com/g37_370...oducts_id=4092

I'm going to email them now and see what they can do.

kenchan 02-19-2014 01:54 PM

yah, hope they can help you out.

while i dont like their service nor their mentality, twm makes good knobs.

I ran into the same problem with this last night! I bought the long one.

I did ask for an exchange for the short version, but they don't have any in stock. I asked to return it but all i got was :bowrofl:

I have a short version on the way from another source. I'll let you know how it fits.

A bunch of my friends recommended them. I'll keep that in mind.

I emailed them and PMd them on this site and got no response. You're saying you asked for a refund and they said no? Bull sh*t. I'm going to call them Monday and see what they say. If they won't take it back I will just dispute charges on my credit card.

They can't advertise a product for a specific car, then refuse to refund that item when the product clearly doesn't fit that application.

UPDATE:

If I wanted the short one, I would've bought the short one.

Just an update here, I sent the 90mm knob back to Z1 and they confirmed that it will not fit on the stock 370Z shifter. They have now put a disclaimer up on their site. They did say that it will fit their short shifter, though.

They offered me either a discount on their short shifter or a swap for the short, 70mm knob. I just ended up going with the short knob. Kudos to them for being cool about the situation and making it clear that their goal was to make the situation right.
