I think I'm going to stay stock for now. These rims are just too gorgeous to rush a decision. If I end up doing it, perhaps a powder coat would be safer considering the temps that these wheels get up to.

Because of the cheap plastic black wheels look it makes the car itself look cheaper.

I suppose that's your opinion.

Roomate did it on his Jeep SRT8 (which costs significantly more than a Nismo) and has gotten nothing but compliments on it. Co-worker did it on his M3, and it looks great. I have spray painted (Satin black) base wheels and everyone seems to like them a lot. Have yet to hear anyone say that it makes any of these cars look $10 cheaper, much less $15,000.

If you're the flashy type, flat black wheels in general aren't for you, regardless of the costs.

Wat? Msrp is like a sneeze apart, and there are huge discounts on the jeep

wrt the plasti dip rims looking cheap--it's taste. If you are into a certain type of the murdered out look they work I guess.
But no one in person is gonna tell you your car looks bad...

Oh I definitely got compliments on the wheels when they were black.... from Civic owners. I go to car shows on a pretty regular basis and the verdict from the cheaper car owners: keep the black. And from more expensive car owners (or cars that started cheap but had a lot put into it): stick with the stock. I went to a few car shows with the left side of the car stock and the right side had the plasti-dipped wheels. People said both looked good but the stock looked significantly better. Keep in mind I have the Nismo RAYS wheels. I had a few people ask me what I did to my 350Z when it was all black wheels, and that among many other reasons made me go back to stock. I never had anyone ask if it was a 350 when the wheels weren't plasti-dipped. It was either, "370" or "what car is that!?". That's my plasti dipped wheels justification. If you have expensive wheels, don't coat them in $6 plastic. Just my opinion but a lot of people will agree. These pictures you see of the wheels on the forum make the wheels like much better than they actually do in real life.

It also might be the shiny Magnetic Black'ness' of the car offsets the flat black plastic.

The jeep in question had an msrp of 50k, that's really only a smidge (10k and all) more..

But yes, it is all personal preference, and the majority of my friends into cars are also ******** and will make fun of anything on your car at any moment. We don't care much for feelings around here. Maybe some people have friends that baby them, mine don't.

If the owner likes it, who cares what other people think? I did some pretty crazy stuff to my wrx when I had it, and what other people said meant very little as long as I liked it. This guy obviously didn't like the flat black wheels. That's his choice, but to imply that wheels painted that color make the car look $15k cheaper is kind of an insult to anyone that has it done, no?

Example of stupid stuff I did because I was bored:

Some people actually liked it, I thought it was funny. It's just a car, people should lighten up.
