Hey fellas. 3 days later...even after doing some spirited runs and getting the heat up quite high in the engine bay I have no peeling, no discoloration, and no melting.
I am quite confident that the only thing we will expect to see from heat is ciscoloring in the dip but that is quite easy to touch up with just a fresh coat. |

As far as tips go, make sure not to short change yourself on the tape job and be sure to do light coats, especially the first one! I got excited and sprayed the hell out of the second coat lol I was trying to make sure I covered the crevices that I hadn't hit yet and it left a few sloppy conglomerates of paint that dried and looked like lines with a rough texture. It's not difficult to fix if you are careful with the other coats, though! I ended up doing 4: first and fourth coats were a light dusting, second and third were pretty solid coats that covered the majority of the paint. If I could recommend one thing further than I have done it would be to be sure to cover the entire exhaust and spray underneath the diffuser on the "invisible" parts as opposed to just the visible rear area like I did. I saved the best for last...be sure to spray in a consistent left to right pattern so you get even coating on each spray! Good luck and post pics once you get it done! I should be receiving my black vinyl to black-top my roof today! I'll update with pics once I get it done...probably not until the weekend; unless, of course, if I get antsy and dive in after work! (Not very likely lol) |
I'd like to see pics of the vinyl! Try and snag a couple on your phone for me. Looking to get a gloss black roof soon... It was $200 at a shop to get it done. I think i can probably do it myself.

that is badass~!

Since the recommendation is to let it dry between coats, how are you pulling the tape off while wet?
|
It really depends on the space that you are spraying. If it is a small space. (Door Handles) You can spray your first layer and get a nice even ZEBRA color. Wait 5-10 til dry. Then do a heavier coat and cover everything from a good distance away so you don't get any paint drops or runs. At that point if it is completely covered and looks good. You can still wait 5 minutes til it dries. After that you will put on your final coat and while the dip is still wet, you want to start to peel using a sharp edge. A Straight tape line is often a better approach than an edge as the dip is still wet and can smudge.
I just recently did my mirrors. I will add pic in a few. |

How is washing the car with this stuff? Does it come off when scrubbing with a sponge?
|
I never risked using a sponge on it for fear that it would come off. They do make a special rag to clean plasti dip though. It worked ok.
