Here's the best way to do it. Or just don't do it at all if that area is such a big problem.

he's trying to mask an area, in this case the wheels, so that he only plastidips what needs to be blacked out... when the tape is removed it takes with it part of the edges.. Emblems are easy since you don't really have to mask, just spray and remove excess.

Plastidip doesnt work like normal paint and it makes it damn near impossible to spray something masked off and pull it off with perfect edges. Maybe try one area at a time and pull the tape off while its still wet, have to be quick and accurate though. Another option would be to use the least stickiest tape possible, painters blue tape comes to mind but it might have to be less than that.

Great info! I was able to do the emblems and my stock rims (to see how the car will look before i spend big $$ on the blacking out the rims)!

it doesn't matter what the tape is or how sticky it is.. the issue is the plastidip creating coats across the tape and onto the part that you are painting

I will try to do a lil better when it stops raining here!
It is actually kinda tricky to know where to draw the line between spoke and rim since every thing is so neatly blended in. Last edited by DufDaddy; 11-16-2011 at 01:18 AM. |
