I figured that was coming too. The F1 comparison is admittedly a stretch.
I have had a lot of sports cars over the years of all makes and models including MB, Porsche, Datsun, Triumph, Jag...and all had manuals except my last four. I had an Sl63 AMG MB with an MCT 7speed before I bought the 370. I honestly think the z's 7AT is faster shifting and much smoother than the MB MCT. I also have a 350z AT and the difference in the 350 and 370 transmissions is unbelievable. Nissan did a fantastic job on the 370. It shifts a hell of a lot faster and smoother than I can manually. The downshifts in manual mode are also very impressive with no hesitation. |
Does anyone know if it is a software issue to have the shift indicator for the 370z automatics?

Yeah my little info display doesn't seem to have a rev limiter setting anywhere I can find. In some sense it's probably a minor software update, but I don't think it would be trivial to swap a 2011 ECU into a 2009 car. They probably made other subtle, incompatible changes to harnesses or sensor voltages or whatever.

Does any dealerships on the forum know if a software update will install the upshift indicator? I went to the dealership by me this morning and could not get a answer

Considering how computer controlled these cars are, I really wish Nissan would update older firmware with pure software features like this... seems like they (finally) figured out there was no reason to remove it.

It's unlikely there's any simple fix (esp from the dealer) to give you a 7AT upshift indicator on the stock dashboard. Probably your best bet would be to ask UpRev to include the feature in their custom rom (seems within reason of what they can do, sorta), but even that might be a stretch to get enough interest. It would be far easier to just install an aftermarket shift-light solution.
On that topic, I've been thinking about this subject a lot lately, and I'd really like a more advanced shift light to really help on the track. I'm thinking more like an RPM gauge layout with colored regions to help make both up- and down- shift decisions. For example (totally made up numbers here): Suppose your best power band, where you want to be, is from 3.5K to 7K. Based on gearing, if you're in 3rd you don't want to upshift to 4th before 6.3K or you'll fall too low, and you don't want to downshift to 2nd when you're any higher than 5K or you'll be too high in the range to have any useful room left. Those numbers (6.3K and 5K) will vary by what gear you're in. If you had some software looking at OBD-II data, it could look at RPM + speed, and with gear ratio settings from you, inferred current gear, and knows whether you're currently accelerating or decelerating based on rising/falling RPMs. Based on that, you could make an intelligent widget that gave you an RPM gauge that gave much more insightful indicators for when you're in useful upshift and downshift ranges as appropriate... |

emailed UpRev about this and they said it's controlled by the BCU and they only have control over the ECM.
looking at Nissan's part site it seems that since 9/2010 this part has been updated. Same pat number 23714-1EA0A. It's only like $45. Wonder if a simple swap would work assuming we have the light in the dash? i think the shift light is very much needed looks like the speedo assembly was updated as well to part 24820-1TG5A. if that is needed, it'd be too costly to do. |
This has been kicked around for some time. I would like a shift light as well and it is a shame that the factory didn't include this feature. After a little research I determined that the easiest and best solution is an aftermarket shift light. Such a light is readily available for under $200, is larger and brighter than the factory light, fully adjustable for RPM and can be placed in almost any location that the driver desires as opposed to the less than optimal factory location in the dash cluster. Just my opinion.

im glad I am not the only one who has not gotten the feel for paddle shifting the 7at yet.
I am in a 2011, and next time im driving, ill look for the light... Never noticed if it was there or not lol |

I have a 2011 7AT touring sport + nav and I'm pretty sure I can set a shift light on the left hand pod. However, my 2010 Z 7AT base + sport did not have that feature.
Is this feature only 2011 and up or is the problem that was discontinued after 2011? :confused: |
