Definitely not a dealer warranty issue.

Check with your insurance company. Many of them will send out a windshield repair truck for free. Not sure if a one inch crack will qualify as the repairs they can make are limited to size, but it doesn't cost you anything to call and ask.

You can go up to the safelite website and it will give you a price on replacing the windshielf if that is the route you have to go.

Good luck...

i agree - it's an insurance thing. if it is a crack, not a chip, then they will probably not be able to patch it up, but instead you would get a new windshield.

Take a pen and run it over the crack line. If the pen catches it means it was an impact crack

If the pen doesn't catch its a stress fracture for warranty repair.

A crack can easily be fixed. Cost me about $30 on one of my cars one time.

If your insurance won't cover it, I had the front windshield on my 350Z replaced for $130. Don't just go with the first place you call, I had to call 5 different companies before I found that price. Some places charged more than twice that.

From the Safelite site.... You definitely want to get the repair done ASAP though as once the crack starts spreading, it will quickly get longer than 6 inches.

Windshield repair is safe, effective, convenient and takes less than 30 minutes to complete. Safelite's certified repair specialists can repair chips, nicks and cracks up to 6 inches long. A quality windshield repair will restore the structural integrity of the windshield, help prevent the damage from spreading, and make the blemish much less noticeable, without removing and replacing the glass.

Oh I did, I was surprised myself. I remember paying much more when I had one replaced on my Mitsubishi 10 years ago. I just thought maybe costs had gone down.
