Programming Rear View Mirror???
What the hell? I've tried to program my homelink mirror to my gate at my apt complext 3 or 4 times with no luck. Seems like the mirror never resets to accept the new device. I've followed the manual to a tee each time and nothing. This is getting a little agrivating.....is there a trick to this? Has anyone else had the same problem?

Yep, it depends on whether or not the opener uses what is called a rolling code, where it is constantly changing. If it does use a rolling code, garage door openers have a learn button on the opener that needs to be pressed. Not sure how that would apply to your gate.

Some commercial door and gate openers are not compatible with the Homelink system. You can try the gate opener mfgr's website and get more info, and/or you can go to Homelink.com's compatibility list at
http://www.homelink.com/partners.php and see if your gate opener is on the list. . Last edited by MacCool; 07-15-2011 at 02:42 PM. |

Thanks everyone...I have a Hyundai Genesis and it worked just fine. I winged it that time and I was in business the first try. It has to be something with the Z. I'll keep trying and maybe I'll get lucky.

I highly doubt it would work on the garage doors in my condo building...I did a half *** try one evening but just figured it won't work.
Maybe when I get my own house and Garage in a year or two lol.

as previously stated, there is a learn button on the back of garage door openers that use a rolling code technology. I've never tried to program to a gate but I know that the learn button on the garage door opener has to be pressed first and then you have 30 seconds to press your homelink button in order to program it. best of luck to you

No, still no luck. There's no way I can get to any buttons on my apt complex's gate. Like I said before...I had absolutely ZERO trouble programming the mirror on my Genesis, which looks amazingly close to the mirror in my Z. I may just keep the fob for the gate in the cup holder and call it a day. It's still agrivating tho something I can live with.

My maint crew are big time DBs. I only have around 2 months left there so I think I'm just going to drop it. Also, it says that you have to be near the device also, so I may go out there one night, late and pull up right to the gate panel.

You can usually tell if your motor has the "rolling code" by seeing if there is a wire hanging down from the motor somewhere. If you see that, it's a good sign you will need to press the "learn" button before you can program the homelink.
