Default Bird Sh*t problem!!!! HELP!!!

ok so i have a new BLACK 370z. I am very anal when it comes to keeping my cars clean and have had many black vehicles. Never have issues and always keep the car mint and in the garage. Heres the problem... went to home depot to pick up some light bulbs yesterday...85 degrees here in jersey...came out to see a lovely bird **** on my rear quarter panel. Freaked out of course drove home (approx. 15 min ) and immediately washed the vehicle. The bird SH*T looks like it ate through the clear coat in a matter of 45 min tops...went to my detail guy around the corner he did a complimentary buff and light compound and tells me that it seems to have gone through the clear coat!! and recommends taking it back to the dealer. Im going first thing tomoro morning but does anyone have any advice or know if this is warrantied and what they will do? thanks for reading this long a** post.

They'll probably tell you that you should have ordered their ValuGard bull$hit for $800.

My dealer wanted me to get my Z "Simonized" - I did a search on google for it, turned up Billy Mays doing commercials, for $600.

That, and they said they wouldn't claybar the car beforehand.

I'd rather spend $100-$200 and have it pro-detailed in/out and have it look like a mirror when it's done. I figure on the 5yr "warranty" with the Simonize product for "natural damage", I'll break even, but have a better looking car.

Maybe I'll do it later...maybe not. I figure whatever that junk is, the detailer will do the same thing with his paint sealant...

Carry a detailing spray and microfiber/cloth with you (your choice of manufacturer) and use a sealant/wax. I alway, at the very least, either use a detailer after each wash or a sealant/wax. Bird dropping are especially hideous as they can contain various natural acids in them from the berries, and fruits birds eat. Bottom line—get that sh!t off ASAP!

I think you'll find your warranty does not cover acidic bird poo, or other envoirnmental fallout.. A good detail guy can make the damage go away though..good luck!

I second that. Unfortunately, bird crap will irreversibly screw up your paint if it is hot out and you don't get it off quickly. The same thing happened to me on a 07 black Honda Civic I owned. A detailer can help diminish the visibility of the "etching" marks, but it will never look quite the same!

Sorry this happened to you...I definitely know how you feel.

Same thing happened to me. Brand new base model in black. I washed it off within a few hours and it definitely screwed up the paint. I ended up having to clay bar and then polish it out. A week later, on my drive to work, i got hit by another bird and then I immediately washed it off as soon as i got to the office. Same thing, it already got through the clear. I've noticed that the paint on this car is VERY soft. It really sucks IMO that it can't even stand up to 30 minutes of bird crap. I've since put on a coat of Meguiar's NXT 2.0 wax to protect it, but i can't comment on how well it works against bird crap cuz i haven't gotten any on it since i put the wax on.

Another rant about the paint on this car: at least on the black, there is a TON of orange peeling.

I don't think Nissan did a good job on the paint with this car.

I have noticed he same thing about the paint on my red 370z. It is brand new, and takes nothing to get light scratches etc... to show up on the paint. I haven't washed mine yet and am actually dreading it. I have a sheepskin wash mit, will use the two bucket method and dry with microfiber cloths. Even with all these things I am not confident it will come out not showing light scratch marks / swirls etc... after.

wax did nothing? that's really disappointing to hear... maybe i'll layer on two coats or something... but yeah, i'm not impressed with this Nissan paint at all. My wife and I have hondas for our other cars and the paint quality is so much better than Nissans... a lot less orange peeling than the crappy paint job our came with, and the paint is fairly hard and swirls and scratches don't show up as much.

And a few months ago some people on this forum were saying that our cars came with the self-healing paint... boy were they wrong.

That's one thing i like about Guam, the brown tree snakes have taken over the island and have almos completely wiped out the bird population here. I can park under any tree without worries lol!

I recommend you spend some time on autopia.com, there are a couple others that are good as well, if you truly care about your car. Be very careful of the advice on car care from sites other than the ones mentioned. People here have good intentions but not necessarily the experience with paint care.
