For the birds
I got epically deficated upon the other day and got it off as soon as I could. I was appalled at how much damage was done to the paint job. Apparently this is a problem that my friend with a black altima coupe is having as well. I took it to a good paint guy and he said he would wet sand and buff the whole roof for 65$. I have already tried clay bar, rubbing compound, etc.
Its bad enough I have to get something done and I doubt Nissan will do anything about a paint issue. Anyone else had any luck with them or any advice? |

This weekI will post a minor wet sanding tutorial video on how to get rid of any sort of problems such as minor scratches, birt ish, dog ish, cat ish, etc. You guys shoudl find it very helpful since Ill make it so easy for anybody to follow because we all knows it takes practice to do all this thats why people take their cars to professionals to have all this done. But after you see the vid tutorial, you guys will feel like you have already done this before

I think bird s**t is a problem we are all going to have. My car got bombed and I got it off asap. 2 places. It ate right through and scarred the paint, after trying everything, Clay bar, machine buffing with swirl removing polish, mineral spirits even. I can still see both places, its really hard to see now, but still. The thing that really is a pisser is I had detailed, from washing, clay bar, polishing with a buffer, and believe it or not 4 coats of sealant. If that does protect our paint what will? Now I have resealed the two areas with 4 coats and carnauba waxed the entire car. I also carry quick detailer and rags in the car now just in case. Might start carrying a bb gun for those damn birds!!!

A video of that would be great. Will this be the way to remove small but deep scratches? For example, if you painted the place with touch up paint and sanded the extra away.

Pearl White seems to be a bird poo magnet as well! I had to clean off a massive load this morning...

Probably yes, I actually have never filled in with touch up and sanded away, but Ill try to do that this week on a test panel at the shop and then if successful then Ill tutorialize that.

Hey guy's please "do not" try to wet sand your cars. I don't care if a video gets posted or not, don't do it. I've been doing this for many years and I don't want to see anyone ruin their paint. Wet sanding should only be done by a pro or someone with the experience. Further more wet sanding is not needed to remove scratches in paint. Anyone who wet sands paint to remove scratches is an idiot. If a scratch is that deep you think it needs wet sanding it's not coming out. As a rule of thumb if you can feel the scratch with your finger nail it will not come out safely. After digitally measuring the paint to make sure there is enough clear to compound or even polish, you should never take off more than .5 mills of paint or you could see premature paint failure. If any of you have any question on proper paint care please feel free to ask me. As a new Z owner, or soon to be, I don't want you to do anything that might jeopardize your paint.
Back to the original poster, bird dropping are very acidic but will not do that much harm in that little time. A simple polish at best will fix it. Keep your cars regularly waxed or sealed and bird droppings will, for the most part, wipe right off with a microfiber rag with some quick detail spray.
