well unfortunately, you can't really protect everything from nature. that's why it takes time and a lot of money to maintain a good looking car.

trust me i know how you feel, i have some similar problems. but at the end of the day, i tried almost everything, nothing else i can really do.

I noticed the orange peel on the black I saw in the showroom, but I really want black. Now, hearing that the clear coat is pretty pitiful on this car, I wonder if it doesn't make sense to just buy it, drive it to a good detail/paint shop, have it block sanded and re-cleared, then sealed with a good molecular wax. That's probably a $3k job, but it would look awesome afterward, and it would be better protected against crap like this (NPI).

If your really worried about that put clear bra all over the car. I mean that's the only way to protect it. It can't be avoided. Hell even parking under a tree is even worse because birds will drop like crazy. Or the other bad part is that sometimes you can get tree sap.

That's a good point. Just wondering how long does it take to put one on?

Im surprised no one has asked this yet but have you tried a clay bar? Does the surface look kinda matt or sanded down black ish? chances are that it has not eaten through your paint. i had a similar bird poop incident on my black 350z and since all the birds in my yard eat highly acidic berries from our cherry blossoms believe me it was as harsh a stain as it gets. i tried everything; waxing, orbital buffer, stain removers (dont recommend any of those).. etc. last but not least i purchased a claybar from the guys at Zaino. Using it correctly it took me about 5 minutes, and revealed a brand spanken new shiny surface underneath, i was shocked. after so much effort before yeilding minimal results this was just too good to be true.

good luck and dont lose your head over it, i almost did

I haven't used their clay bar, but I use Zaino Z5 "wax" for my black 370 and I am very, very happy with it. I wash the car once a week and wax it once a month. water spots and swirl marks, scratches, streaks are almost non-existent. not sure if it would protect against bird poop but overall it has made this the easiest black car to maintain I have ever had.

Yeah, I used a clay bar. It helped, but in the end, i still needed to polish it out. The surface looked a bit matted and rough, but with the clay bar it made it less noticeable. At certain angles though or light conditions, it'd still show up though. The polishing fixed this. It's just annoying though to have to do that when the bird poo has been on your car for about 30 minutes and it does this.

LSUTurboTiger, where do you find Zaino Z5? I haven't been able to find it at my local Kragen. Is it an online purchase?

you can order everything online, their wax (Z5 when used with Z2) is by far the best combination i have used so far in terms of protection and shine. plus it lasts waayy longer than carnauba based waxes.

Thanks, zosomoso, I'll have to give it a try. I've been using Meguiar's products (clay bars, machine polishes, waxes, etc) and i've been happy with them, but I also hear great things about Zaino.

Yeah, one thing i hate is modern paints. They are so soft. I always polish and wax my car with multiple layers. Keep quick detailer and a microfiber at all times. Don't park anywhere or under anything that birds could sit on.

If i got any new car, i would probably colorsand it with a paint depth guage to make the paint mirror looking (because of the orange peel).
