well unfortunately, you can't really protect everything from nature. that's why it takes time and a lot of money to maintain a good looking car.
trust me i know how you feel, i have some similar problems. but at the end of the day, i tried almost everything, nothing else i can really do.

I noticed the orange peel on the black I saw in the showroom, but I really want black. Now, hearing that the clear coat is pretty pitiful on this car, I wonder if it doesn't make sense to just buy it, drive it to a good detail/paint shop, have it block sanded and re-cleared, then sealed with a good molecular wax. That's probably a $3k job, but it would look awesome afterward, and it would be better protected against crap like this (NPI).

If your really worried about that put clear bra all over the car. I mean that's the only way to protect it. It can't be avoided. Hell even parking under a tree is even worse because birds will drop like crazy. Or the other bad part is that sometimes you can get tree sap.

unless you want to put a car cover on everywhere you go and park.

Im surprised no one has asked this yet but have you tried a clay bar? Does the surface look kinda matt or sanded down black ish? chances are that it has not eaten through your paint. i had a similar bird poop incident on my black 350z and since all the birds in my yard eat highly acidic berries from our cherry blossoms believe me it was as harsh a stain as it gets. i tried everything; waxing, orbital buffer, stain removers (dont recommend any of those).. etc. last but not least i purchased a claybar from the guys at Zaino. Using it correctly it took me about 5 minutes, and revealed a brand spanken new shiny surface underneath, i was shocked. after so much effort before yeilding minimal results this was just too good to be true.
good luck and dont lose your head over it, i almost did Darius Last edited by zosomoso; 04-28-2009 at 10:04 AM. |

LSUTurboTiger, where do you find Zaino Z5? I haven't been able to find it at my local Kragen. Is it an online purchase? |

Thanks, zosomoso, I'll have to give it a try. I've been using Meguiar's products (clay bars, machine polishes, waxes, etc) and i've been happy with them, but I also hear great things about Zaino.

Yeah, one thing i hate is modern paints. They are so soft. I always polish and wax my car with multiple layers. Keep quick detailer and a microfiber at all times. Don't park anywhere or under anything that birds could sit on.
If i got any new car, i would probably colorsand it with a paint depth guage to make the paint mirror looking (because of the orange peel). |
