Awesome find Kenchan!! I'm determined to find out where exactly the moisture pools and do something about it.
Another little issue maybe some of you have. This only started in fall when the car sat overnight in cooler temps (I'm in Denver). When I start the car for the first time that day, within 5 seconds I get strong plastic smell, that almost immediately goes away. It won't do it again until it sits for awhile in cool weather. It doesn't smell like burning plastic, but like really hot plastic. It is coming from the engine compartment and I don't smell it when AC is on recirc since it doesn't pull from the engine area. Anyone else experience this? |

And the story continues. I found the evaporator drain house on teh passenger side, smelled fine, and ran some water through it to make sure it drains. Pushed a Q tip into the nipple the hose connects to and it smells fine too, not wet. Checked the aspirator hose on the other side and it seems fine. Looked at the fresh air intake, everything good there too. I don't know where this moisture pools. Since I have access I'm considering giving it a quick shot of Lysol into the evaporator and let it sit for a bit, than dry it out. If that doesn't work Nissan can figure it out, they can replace the whole damn HVAC as far as I'm concerned.

Not A Mold Smell???? A Chemical Smell
Okay, so I have my car now (when I previously posted on this thread it was pre-car) and I have some questions.
When I first turn the air on in the car I get this obnoxious smell. It lasts about, oh, I don't know, 15 to 20 seconds maybe, give or take a few, maybe even 30 seconds. But the smell is not the same old mildewy moldy smell I've gotten in previous cars, so I'm not sure if it's the same thing you all are discussing here. The smell I get has a chemical like scent to it, like a plastic solvent sort of smell. Like you are huffing in 2 pieces of plastic you just glued together or something. Does this sound familiar here? Or is my smell some new weird thing associated with 2012 models? Oh yeah, hey kenchan, glad to see someone else posted what I said way back in the beginning about the bleach. Why didn't you bang them about it like you did me? Both posts by lpsscc are back on page 3. Getting rid of HVAC odor Getting rid of HVAC odor

Had an issue like this with my Titan pro4x. the moisture that condensates wasn't draining fast enough. I ended up blowing air from my compressor into the drain hole that is on the firewall and uncloggeed the hole when a blob of crude came out with a good bit of water behind it. Then i would recommend running the heater to dry it out a bit. Just my two cents hope it helps.

Ive been just letting the blower go full blast for as long as I can. No air condition. Seems to be working. When I do switch back to the ac after a while, its nothing but nice febreeze air freshener.
