Flat Gray

1 Attachment(s)
I REALLY like the look of this colour. The closest I have seen is DOCAAM's Matt Silver, which is slightly lighter.

Has anyone seen this available in a 3M wrap, or would I have to go with paint to achieve this colour?

I like the idea of a wrap so that after a year or two I can go back to black. On that note, how long can a person expect to get out of a Full Body 3M Vinly Wrap?

What do you guys think about this colour for a Z?

save money for more performance mods

My car is a DD, and I'm totally happy with the performance.

Every mod from here on in, is going to be visual.

Did you like the colour?

b1adesofcha0s 06-22-2011 10:39 AM

I think the color and the Porsche both look sick!

A darker flat gray, like the 40th Gray, would look even better IMO.

kenchan 06-22-2011 10:49 AM

actually a vinyl wrap has a great side effect to protect paint. so not only is it a cosmetic mod, it's also a full car bra perfect for dd's.

EXACTLY!

If I have to paint the car, I will clear bra the entire car.

If I can Wrap it, I don't need a clear bra.

docaam 06-22-2011 11:44 AM

That's slightly darker then what I HAD. Go for 3m silver it's just perfect shade.

Some people are using Oracal normal shinny wrap then a clear matte wrap also from Oracal. That case you have more colour options and pricing is slightly higher as matte roll is very cheap

I think it would look fantastic

Jamaica 06-22-2011 12:28 PM

I believe it would look nice. Need a nice pair of shoes to go with it.

+1

I had my roof vinyl'd gloss black and it's held for nealy a two years as my daily driver. As long as you take care of it like you would any other surface it should hold up pretty well.

Worst case if your bumper or mirrors start to peel off from daily driving you can just get those areas re-wrapped again.

b1adesofcha0s 06-22-2011 12:41 PM

For vinyl wrap, do you wash the car as you would normally or do you have to take some special precautions?

I can normally wash/dry/use quick detailer for my glossy finish.

I also helped wash a friends car when he had a matte wrapped roof and it was the same thing.

Gunzero 06-22-2011 03:12 PM

if you have the money then yes do it! the color is nice, but matte black is nicer

John-Q 06-22-2011 03:17 PM

Econ 06-22-2011 03:35 PM

every wrapped car i have seen in person you can clearly tell was wrapped. I'd personally opt for paint, but thats just me.

SalA 07-21-2011 10:07 AM

Looks Great!

I recently saw an SL65 AMG vinyl wrapped in a Pearl White color...had a sheen look to it....Was incredible.

Zerafian 07-21-2011 12:24 PM

eh...use the money on a nice kit and just get a 3m clear bra on it if you want to protect your paint.

b1adesofcha0s 07-21-2011 12:29 PM

Kit + clear bra = way more expensive

hdskull 07-21-2011 01:02 PM

Someone with a nismo in LA was getting his car wrapped in matte gray, I don't know if he ever posted pictures..

NYBladeZ 07-21-2011 01:17 PM

I like it, but its to close to flat black and probably will not look as good if it is ever put next to a flat black car. Wraps like that are pretty expensive for a giant sticker.

whats the price of wrapping a car? i dont think i would do it on anything i wanted to have look "high-end". while it can look great in pictures and from a distance, dont think for a second that it will look any better than a crappy paint job up close where you can see all the nasty edges!

b1adesofcha0s 07-21-2011 05:12 PM

I think it's around $2-3k for a full car. A full paint job would cost anywhere from 2 to 4 times as much.

Zerafian 07-21-2011 07:06 PM

Iv heard it done for around a grand...not sure how pretty it looks though heh.

Vinyl does not act as a clear bra. I install both and can tell you that a rock will g oright through vinyl. It will stop sand and other small praticles but not rocks. Paint protection film is much more durable and is designed to stop rocks. Vinyl is cosmetic.

We have a satin finish film by Xpel and another by Prestige called Satin Guard that will make the paint look matte. It will also protect the factory paint from rock damage... but it will not change the color you already have.

Cost for wrapping vehicle in the states to do it right will run you around $3500-4500 depending on the vehicle. Some are harder than others and require more material/labor so the price can fluctuate.

b1adesofcha0s 07-22-2011 08:53 AM

Even with clear bra though, the bigger rocks still get through. I guess you can't really do anything about those but it does help with the smaller ones.
