Sunline Racing Front Lip Ground Clearance?
I currently live in a very hilly area (La Jolla, CA) and I was wondering what the ground clearance for the Sunline Racing front lip was and if I will scrape on ditches/driveways. If anyone could provide pictures of an undropped Z with the lip and also the stock ground clearance then that would be great :) thanks in advance!

Sorry man I dont have picture of stock height Z, I drove with this kit for few months but did broke it a bit eventually. When going over bumps its the side skirts on a lowered car which rubs more. Lip touch sometimes on steep angle but you have to keep in mind it sits really low

Thanks for the pictures! Did you notice more rubbing after you installed the lip? Or did you tend to drive the same way with or without it and were fine either way?

I've lived in La Jolla when I was at UCSD and there are way too many ditches and weird road transitions. I'm surprised you haven't scraped with the stock setup.
|
I go to UCSD now! I'm class of 2013.

Are you scraping your stock chin lip, as it will be same height, but stock chin is not at the end of bumper
if you are not lowering the car you should be ok |
Yeah. It's pretty bad at UCSD. I drove around that area for an entire weekend during SUNGOD and I had to slow down many times because of random dips and such. Definitely not a very lowered car friendly area.
|
OP, this should help- stock ride height. IMO, it's not that much lower than the middle of the stock bumper.

love those headlights ^^

Thanks cheshirecat, those are perfect. Beautiful car by the way! I saw a forum member with this lip who put small metal plates screwed in with counter sink screws under the car to prevent scraping of the actual paint of carbon fiber. I cannot find the original post, but where would you suggest placing these plates? I guess the clearer question would be where does the lip, or even the entire kit, scrape the most?
|
The lip scrapes the most in the very front on declines. As long as you take an aggressive decline at an angle, you shouldn't have a problem.
I'm not too concerned with a little scraping under the lip, so no skid plates for me- I couldn't really recommend where to put them. What I do recommend if you're going to go with a replica is to stick with Shine. The fitment is great and the flex will help you quite a bit if you're concerned with bottoming out. |
I go to UCSD, at stock height, you'll be fine with the lip. It's the sideskirts you have to worry about. I'm lowered on swifts, and if I slow down, I don't scrap anything. The chin spoiler/sideskirt is what will scrape the most if you're not careful. New speed bumps at the village don't help much... I drove through one when it was raining hard, and I hit my sideskirt HARD... I actually wanted to make a vide of all the damn speed bumps/dips at UCSD...
Btw, are you the PW that's on campus? |
i JUST DROPPED MY Z WITH AN EIBACH PRO KIT AND I NOTICED THAT WHERE I DIDNT SCRAPE BEFORE IT SCRAPES NOW ALOT IN THE FRONT SOMETIMES EVEN GOING UP OR DOWN AT AN ANGLE AND SLOW. I HAVE YET TO PUT A CF LIP ON IT BUT THAT SMALL BLACK PASTIC LIP UNDER THE CAR IS ALWAYS SCRAPIN... BUT BELIEVE ME STOCK HEIGHT AND DROPPED MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE.. YOU WILL LOVE THE LOOK OF THE 1" DROP AND THE RIDE DOES NOT FEEL ROUGHER OR STIFFER LIKE I EXPECTED... GO FOR THE DROP..
