The A.M. Performance race car is setup with these as well. I was a little surprised that they would use them in a race environment considering the possible need to throw the hood up and down.

Thats why I like them. It gets the hood prop out of your way to get in there and work.

Those (pardon) look better than the other set. Well, not better but look "safer". Unless the angle is confusing me, these look like that attach further down the hood (closer to the middle). Wouldn't being connected further down the hood put less stress on the hood when closing (etc.)?

Same principle. The shocks are strong along with the hood being light. My 350 had a heavy hood and these shocks worked fine for over three years till I got rid of it. The reason I see they mounted them this way is to get the hood open further. More than one way to skin a cat.
