Transparent Roof.

Ok... So I was just at the custom's shop getting my Laser jammers installed, and I noticed a pretty nice looking corvette. The thing about it though, was that once you got inside of the car, the roof was transparent when you looked up.

From the outside, the roof matched the paint perfectly.

So this led me to wonder, is there any type of roof replacement for the Z that's like this?

I was so impressed with it that I want one immediately lol.

The vette was blue, and the top looked blue from the outside, then when you got in the car, you could see right through the roof.

T-top Vettes come with transparent roofs, they probably just painted it, but I don't get how that works? I know you can colorcode the taillights to the car and when they light up, you can see light through it... but I don't see how you'd be able to clearly see through a painted surface.

Edit, I highly doubt the roof you saw was painted AND transparent. Transparent roofs only come in a black tint, it nearly looks painted from the outside, this would be impossible with paint. What you saw was a blue vette w/ the transparent roof option.

exactly, I had one, although it was black and matched my black car. although the tinting is blue, and maybe under the right lighting conditions it can look blue too.

I cannot help you with the Corvette because my 69 had a tru transparent top, no I could not see the clouds in a thunder storm with the top up. But I do have an experience sim. to this. I went on a Carnival Cruise and ate in their steak house. If you look at thier ads the base of thier smoke stack has red glass, well that is the glass roof on the steak house. It is 100% clear from the inside but is red on the outside. Don't know how it is done.

Thanks for proving my sanity.

Would love to know how this is done for some fabricated Z mods.

m4a1mustang 04-25-2011 11:22 AM

The contours of the Z's roof would make this very difficult and expensive, but a glass roof would be pretty awesome. It's the one option I wish I got with my Mustang.
