Additional post, I have 30% tint all the way around and a 4.5 inch visor strip across the windshield at 5%. Nice during the day can be a little dark at night. Different states have different tolerances so you may want to ask the tint people when making your choice.

5% all around except windshield. 3M color shield. couldn't be happier with the results.

I'm getting my windows tinted, but I was curious.. is anyone having a problem when the tint is fresh (because you shouldn't put windows down for 24-hours) and opening the door, since the window pops down every time you open it? It annoys the **** out of me.

Jme370 03-09-2011 07:41 PM

No, but there is a rubber piece inside the front part of the door that your installer MUST get the tint on the inside of or else you will have the same peeling issue that a lot of people are having. As far as the auto seal, it shouldn't matter if tint is installed correctly.

15% in the back. 20% on the sides.

Joe21 03-29-2011 11:10 PM

I'm planning to go 15% all around. Anyone have trouble driving in the night or anything? Any tickets?

"A 2 Z" that's really dark, especially for MD. A fix-it ticket is just a matter of time for you ;)
Here is what 35% 3M tint all around looks like on mine. Can perfectly see at night all the while being ninja shadow to others; still hang back when I see the police cruisers... precautionary step.

haha that "eye doctor" papers idea is not bad and will be awesome if you manage to get it. I'm shocked you got a warning citation, the officer had to be in a really good mood :)

Thx, roof was professionally painted. Give a call to Frank@ Wilson Autobody in Baltimore - pricey but you WILL be guaranteed satisfaction once you see the end result.

I have a concern regarding tinting the windows of my 2011 Nismo that I've only had a week. I know you aren't suppose to roll the windows down right after having them tinted, but whenever you open the doors the window comes down an inch automatically in order to clear the top of the door, won't this affect the tint job??

fuzzywuzzy 04-02-2011 01:01 PM

Does anyone have any pics of just the hatch tinted and nothing else?

It shouldn't Bodytechz, most tinting chops are well aware of it and usually cut the paint film accordingly. It will obviously help if you let the tint dry up for a few days though. You should be able to bring your car to the shop at no additional cost if the films gets loose.

Helps block the sun glare quite well.

Anyway enjoy!

That still doesn't stop you from getting pulled over.
Not worth the hassle IMNSHO. You're just asking to get pulled over with something that dark. You've already stopped at least once, right?
The eye doctor papers won't mean squat if you're on your way home from the bar. The cop walking up to your car is already on edge because he can't see inside.

Big J 04-02-2011 06:09 PM

Another pic of my 5%. I got pulled over for no aparent reason last weekend and the cop tried to whine about my tint(I've been waiting a while for this) pulled out my medical exemption form and he just walked back to his car nd drove off lol. I am not one that talks bad about cops at all but I was extremely shocked he pulled me over and I know it was not because of window tint, that was just his fall back including my liscense plate cover. Anyways.....

In PA, illegal tint and obstruction of your license plate are valid reasons for being stopped.
Your state appears to have the same limitations on window tint. Not trying to be a hater, but your sh1t is illegal. So quit your whining when you get pulled over and deal with the hassle or pay your "I look cool tax".

Nice ride Big J!!!

Big J 04-03-2011 04:46 PM

You don't know me so I can't expect much from you. I am not whining when I say he pulled me over for no reason. He never saw my plate cover until I was stopped, bc he was never behind me and turned his lights on while he was beside my car;) You got a little internet hater in you. If I did something illegal I would have gotten a ticket. Don't preach laws to me either, I already went to court for the plate cover and it was thrown out bc it IS LEGAL as long as the plate is legible for 60 ft.

This sticky should be pics and tint specs only to keep it on topic.

Ohh and it's not for looking cool, My doctor is the one that questioned my sensativity to light while running some tests and gave me the exemption without me even asking. I am one of the few that actually appreciate the exemption for medical purposes.

Just to let people get more variation. its 3m 25% around and 50 on the windshield. The light tinting of the windshield help reduce night time glare from oncoming traffic

ps just can just barely see the outline of my dog in the second pic

Footloose301 04-20-2011 07:44 PM

Just got my windshield done with 45% and the rest of the car was already done a few months ago in 15%. The windshield makes all the difference. Its like driving with sunglasses on during the day. At night you can't even tell it's tinted. With the windows open, nobody can tell its tinted, unless they're looking for it. It looks much darker in the pics than it does in person. I'll take better pics another time.

It's the dawn/dusk that'll get you, but maybe not so much as with 45%. The times when it's not too bright or dark for having your windows down to make a difference. I had an Accord with 5% all around and 35% on the windshield and got away with it for about 5 years.

That is. . . until I pulled up first at a light during dusk making a left. The cop was in the oncoming lane and was first, too. I know he was staring me down It was dusk and I had all my windows and sunroof down. Needless to say, shortly making my left, I see the lights and knew exactly what it was for. Oh well, had to happen eventually.

I live in KY btw and they really don't give a **** about tint in general. I think this one cop was just had his eye out.

Be careful with that! If you get into an accident especially if it was with me and there was any bodily injury at all, i would go after you in court for obstructing your clear view of the road (its illegal) for quite a few coins :driving:

Footloose301 05-02-2011 06:21 PM

You'd have a hard time with that considering most sunglasses are darker than 45%....

Besides, you should really find a different outlook on life rather than trying to find reasons to sue people.

Sunglasses are legal and can be easily taken off, tint on a windshield is not

nice try though :driving:

:icon18:Not quite.

Obviously the tint is semi-permanent, But nobody is going to take their sunglasses off right before an accident:rolleyes: If I rear ended you at noon you would have no case. You would only win at night, and thats only a possibility.

Which brings me back to my next point. Find a different way to make more money. Relax.:driving:

Actually it is illegal to operates a vehicle with tint affixed to the windshield at all hours of the day and night. If its noon and you rear end me, you did it by operating a motor vehicle that was illegal to have on public roads and to top it if someone gets seriously injured or killed, your looking at a much more serious charge.

Its not about money its about ignorance of the law and repressions thereafter.

Footloose301 05-02-2011 07:21 PM

Well good luck with that. You missed the entire point. Almost every car in this forum is illegal whether it be side windows, rear windows, no front plate, no cats, etc...

Good luck on your road to the riches. Your first comment indicated your wishes.

Footloose301 05-02-2011 08:37 PM

Better pics as promised: Windows down, 8pm. Pics still make it appear darker than it looks in person, but imho I think it looks great.

1. Side windows don't block your forward view and you can roll them down.

2. Rear window matters not because you have 2 side view mirrors.

3. A cat or plate?...how exactly does that come into this conversation? Your really reaching here.

4. This all was about your windshield being illegally obstructed.

In conclusion, I have no need for anymore money than i have now and that's not the point. The point is that you are in the wrong and don't want to admit it. That's ok though have fun when its almost night out and that kid starts crossing the road and....oh yea you have a excuse for that too.

You're not comprehending this at all. I never denied windshields being illegal, never once. I know it is but I DON'T care. Side windows have just as much to do with obstructed views if it's illegal tint ad then you rambled on about ignorance and of the law so I suggested many vehicles in this forum are "igorant" because they're illegal thru various mods.

Haha and now you're talking about kids getting hit because of a little tint on a windshield that isn't as dark as a pair on sunglasses. All I told you is that you'd have a hard time proving that tint became a factor in an accident. "It's not what you know, it's what you can prove". If you've ever seen a tinted windshield in person then you'd know it wouldn't be a factor. As far as reaching goes, you would be doing quite a bit.

This really needs to get back on topic. It's a decision thread for people to look at tints and make their own decision toward a future purchase.

leighspped 05-03-2011 07:29 AM

Oh yeah don't forget all the ppl with windshield NAVs are all illegal!!!

Wilken21 06-04-2011 01:14 AM

I have to say i'm envious more of the fact that almost Everyone has a Black 370Z, WTF! I looked for 6 months and couldn't find anything within 500 miles of me that was black so i had to cope with red :/ I mean don't get me wrong I love my Z, but If I find a Magnetic Black or a Black Cherry, I wouldn't hesitate to trade XD and my Z has I think 20% all the way around but i'm not sure, I know it's way darker than the 30% is
