Is that a white pin strip on your car?

370Z JT 03-08-2010 02:29 AM

What these photos are lacking is someone sitting in the seats to get an idea of what some one from the outside would be seeing.

20%. It looks like I got the infamous corner peeling problem on the driver's side. Gonna have to bring it back for them to fix.

Marcus Ryan 03-26-2010 03:29 PM

tsolin01, I got the exact same thing, right at the bottom corner by the mirror. Getting it fixed on Saturday.

tonybui 03-26-2010 03:37 PM

Don't you guys suppose to not lower your window for like a day, but for the Z, how do you not lower your window when opening the doors ??

Marcus Ryan 03-26-2010 03:56 PM

Let it sit for a couple hours right after tinting and then pray. In my case, the passengers side is good so I'll be crawling over for a day or two.

tonybui 03-26-2010 03:59 PM

Sit in my car for a couple hours after tinting ?? lolz

Marcus Ryan 03-26-2010 04:00 PM

I meant let it sit at the tint shop for a couple hours, but could do worse than sitting in the car I suppose ;)

I'm getting Solar Gard Ultra Performance 30 fitted next week. I would also be interested to hear from anyone.

SmoothZ 04-07-2010 07:26 PM

I got mine done today and will have to take pics later. The guy did a great job. He's been tinting for 25 years. I ended up getting 40% for the rear 3 and 50% for the doors. It's funny, but he took the meter to the door windows and it read 41%. He told me that the laws and technology behind the enforcement is so antiquated that things need to change.

Here's some thoughts on the tint install for our cars:

- My installer put a clamp on the button that turns the interior light on and off, and makes the window go up and down when you open or close the door. This kept the window up during the install.
If you were concerned about the dreaded peel, you could somehow rig the button to stay depressed. Duct tape?

- My installer removed the top trim from the door to make it easier for him to apply the tint well below the window seal. This was achieved by popping off the trim plate behind the door handle and undoing one bolt. It was quick and painless and made his job much easier and the final outcome cleaner.
Sorry I didn't take a pic of that part.

Funny thing is that when the guy tested it after he installed it, the doors read 41%. Tint technology has outpaced enforcement by 20 years. The measuring tool needs an upgrade.

Window Tint

I recently had my car tinted, 35% front and back and 30% on the door windows and I'm really happy with the results. I asked help from http://www.TintBuyer.com. They provide relevant information about window tints such as its benefits, quotations, laws involve in every state and will help you find the best professional tinter near your area. I hope this helps

The installer said it was "carbon" tint, whatever that means. They did a good job, but had to do the driver's door over to fix the corner peel.

can someone post a pic of pearl z with colored window tints, preferbly black faded to grey?

Osiris 06-01-2010 04:33 PM

My Z is due to arrive sometime next week at the dealer hopefully...ordered it in March. But i went out and tinted my old car at limo 5% just to see if it's too dark for my taste or not. It's not, it's actually pretty nice. No visibility problems (unless i'm wearing sun glasses too).

Here's the kicker, i got pulled over the next day!!!!!!

officer: how long you had your tint like that?

Me: since yesterday!

officer: so you can't roll down your window yet eh? (as he's holding the tint meter)

Me: actually no!

I lucked out this time...it was labor day and he let me go with a warning. I was really hoping to do my Z in 5% but now i'm worried :ugh2: :eekdance:

There's nothing to worry about.
Just know that you WILL get pulled over with 5% and be prepared for the hassle and paying the "looking cool tax".
When I bought my Mazdaspeed3, the previous owner had 20% all around and the dealer left it on. I bought the car like that and got pulled over less than a week later. In fact, I got pulled over five times in three months before deciding that looking cool wasn't going to be worth $2080 a year in fines and I reduced the front windows to 70%.

For the record, I haven't even had a second glance from the po-po with the tint I have on the Z.
It's dark enough to provide some relief from the sun and give the car some flavour, but not so dark that I look like I need to get pulled over.

What's the risk of being pulled over for having 20% tints on the side and back of a black Z in California? :)

CharBoiler 07-15-2010 03:59 PM

I had 20% on my STi back in 05. The moment I get onto the freeway from the tint shop (located in Redwood City), CHP pulled me over. Didn't want to roll my windows down cause I had them just
tinted. Damn timing.

Gunzero 07-31-2010 08:06 AM

Getting my windows tinted today. >:s I'm scared.
