^Kind of iffy on that. A smart cop (which you will probably never run into) would know that the factory windows don't provide 100% light transmittance stock. So even with with 95% light transmittance, your "70%" tint cuts it down to 66.5%, which is a no go. Plus I seriously doubt any cop will take a look at your receipt and let you go on your way. They'll probably cut you a ticket and tell you to take it up with the judge. Also in some states cops carry a light meter that measures the transmittance on the spot.

You're probably right but there is no way I was going to tint the car only 70% which looks just a tad darker than no tint at all. Most people are doing 35% on the front side. I figured I'd go with the 50% which is a little lighter and along with the contrast on the 22% rear there is enough difference to make it look not too dark. If they pull out the light meter, nothing I can do but I think having them write 70% on the receipt instead of 50% was still the best option and has some chance of working.

Got pictures? I want to see what it looks like because I wanted to go with 50% in the front but the tint shop said they only had 35%. So I just went ahead and did that. Lately I've been getting used to driving with the windows down but with how the weathers been lately its only a matter of time before I start using the AC.

The guy at the tint shop was pretty nice and wrote on the receipt that the front sides are only 70% instead of the 50% they gave me. 70% is the legal limit for front side windows in California. This way if I get pulled over, I'll just show them that it was done within legal limit.

I'll have pics up tommorow. I think it looks pretty good with 50/22% and at night there isn't much contrast front vs. rear. During the day, there is slight contrast but if I went darker on the front, nobody would believe me if I said it was 70%

I'm sure your tint looks good, as do all the cars in this thread, but there is no legal tint in CA. I have some knowledge on this subject due to my job. I'm not sure where you got your information, but just so you are aware, your tint is not legal in our fine state.

BS Bases are supposed to follow state law on stuff like that. And even then only on cars that are registered locally. If youre registered out of state you can get away with a lot, I know from experience.

Could you please not quote the picture in your quote? It adds clutter and eats at SSQ's bandwidth.

Actaully, that's not true.

Once the picture is cached, it's cached.

That's why something like this doesn't cost bandwidth more than one time...

I just checked on the state website which says 88% is legal on the front. However, from what I hear people will let you go if its only at 70%. I did some research beforehand and noticed that there is a lot of confusion in CA as to whether its none, 88% or 70%. There are many documents floating on the net showing all three. I figured I was going to tint it anyway.

I work for a city PD and I VERY rarely cite anyone for window tint. They pretty much have to talk their way in to one. Anyway, you are certainly right about people being confused about the law in California, but the state vehicle code is the only resource that matters and the vehicle code states you may not affix any material at all to your front windows. It sucks, I know, and it really depends on the cop who stops you whether or not your tinting is "OK" or not. Based on my experience with people asking me to sign off the correction on their tint tickets, I find the CHP writes a lot of them.

I just got a 35% ceramic tint on the side and rear windows:

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...7-14-09014.jpg

I think the 35% tint on the rear and side windows looks great, not to mention that the reduction in interior heat when sitting out in the sun was immediately noticeable!

For you Southern California guys, the installer I used is UltimateShield in Orange (Ultimate Shield Home Page) - they did great work and had the car ready in less than a day! No worries with these guys!

The clock is now running to see how long it takes before I get a citation here in beautiful Southern Kalifornia...

FricFrac 07-19-2009 09:01 PM

Been meaning to take some tint pics for the thread here...

- Quantum phase shifting carbon monoliquid tint.
- 20db gain from 1kHz to 58Ghz for increased radio reception
- UV and IR absorbant film creates sustainable resources for future generations
- Pico Ceramic technology - that's 1000 x better than Nano Ceramic....
- Unlimited Partial Lifetime warranty for the life of the tires on Sundays

Not bad for 5% all around 3M film eh?

Anyhow on to the pics. I was out with my friend and his Z06 and unfortunately his cars are in some of the pics. Man that car is sick (the good kind of sick ;) ) .....

*edit* Meh, maybe that was a little too mean.

But seriously, take one look at the wheel/tire setup and its fairly obvious he more than likely road courses it. Add in a nice wing for down force, and its a badass setup.

Not everyone gets a wing on a Corvette to be a ricer.

RCZ 07-22-2009 05:47 PM

hehe function over form = sexier than any show car.

Definately for the track - Jack is in the Advanced group at Mission and is currently getting his Instructor's qualifications. The wing is set up for adjustable rake and is 100% function as is the hood (and everything under it attached to the LT7 beast), front lip, StopTec brake kit, 315-19" / 285-18" wheels, etc, etc...

now back to the tint ;)

By front window, isn't that only referring to the windshield? the side doors can have up to 70% or 88% and the rear window can go darker.

What a ricer - he should rip that wing off, and put some skinnier tires on it so he can be cool like the SoCal hard park-ers.

You mean LS7, though?

Not in Kalifornia - the windshield (except for a strip at the top) and side windows next to the front seats may not be tinted (second row seats, third row seats, ..., side windows and rear window may be tinted. Even on limos, the driver and front passenger side windows may not be tinted (all of the other ones usually are).

VCuomo is correct. The front windows are your front driver and passenger windows. Those may not be tinted at all. Where are you reading the 70%/88% thing? See CVC 26708(a)(1). That section actually refers to the windshield, front or rear windows. It reads like you can't tint any of your windows, but later in the section it specifies that it doesn't apply to windows to the rear of the driver.

I think FL doesn't have a tint limit. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.
