My Z is due to arrive sometime next week at the dealer hopefully...ordered it in March. But i went out and tinted my old car at limo 5% just to see if it's too dark for my taste or not. It's not, it's actually pretty nice. No visibility problems (unless i'm wearing sun glasses too).

Here's the kicker, i got pulled over the next day!!!!!!

officer: how long you had your tint like that?

Me: since yesterday!

officer: so you can't roll down your window yet eh? (as he's holding the tint meter)

Me: actually no!

I lucked out this time...it was labor day and he let me go with a warning. I was really hoping to do my Z in 5% but now i'm worried :ugh2: :eekdance:

There's nothing to worry about.
Just know that you WILL get pulled over with 5% and be prepared for the hassle and paying the "looking cool tax".
When I bought my Mazdaspeed3, the previous owner had 20% all around and the dealer left it on. I bought the car like that and got pulled over less than a week later. In fact, I got pulled over five times in three months before deciding that looking cool wasn't going to be worth $2080 a year in fines and I reduced the front windows to 70%.

For the record, I haven't even had a second glance from the po-po with the tint I have on the Z.
It's dark enough to provide some relief from the sun and give the car some flavour, but not so dark that I look like I need to get pulled over.

What's the risk of being pulled over for having 20% tints on the side and back of a black Z in California? :)

CharBoiler 07-15-2010 03:59 PM

I had 20% on my STi back in 05. The moment I get onto the freeway from the tint shop (located in Redwood City), CHP pulled me over. Didn't want to roll my windows down cause I had them just
tinted. Damn timing.

Gunzero 07-31-2010 08:06 AM

Getting my windows tinted today. >:s I'm scared.

christian370z 08-02-2010 12:58 AM

I love the way 35% looks on a car: it gives it just a hint of class and complexion without looking too dark or impairing night vision. How much does it cost roughly to get a 370Z tinted?

christian370z 08-03-2010 05:44 PM

Anyone? I am trying to get a rough guestimate for how much it might cost to get the Z tinted...

NewlyIMPORTed 08-03-2010 06:14 PM

prob like 140 bucks idk i got mine for free because i know the guy

CharBoiler 08-04-2010 11:51 AM

I think it all depends on what type of tint and the area you live in. I got quoted $250 for all 6 windows. I don't know what type of tint they use. You should try asking you local shop.

christian370z 08-04-2010 02:11 PM

That is roughly what I would have guessed, thanks for the reply guys.
