Default painting rims

hello guys,

I'm just curious that how much will it be to paint

my stock 18" base model's rims. yep I want to get sport pakage rims

but no money now. I fairly like the base model's rims so I'm not plaaning to get

new rims for another like 2 years.

I heard powder coat is more money but I don't know what's the difference.

Thanks

It would be best to powdercoat its way more durable and its not that expensive depending on where you go. Just shop around some most in my area are about $80 a wheel.

Thank you for the answer!

$80 per a wheel is a really good price!

I wouldn't go through the trouble. $320 for powdercoating + $100 for mounting and balancing is too much if thats not what you really want. You could get it painted for a lot less, without removing the tires, but its not as durable.

When your ready, just sell the base wheels and save that money towards the SP wheels. Around $1200 for a used set including tires and sensors. I plan on keeping my 18's and slapping some winter tires on when I have enough for an aftermarket set.

I would just paint them if they're going to be temporary wheels for your Z. For approx. $25 for satin black spray paint, satin clear coat, painter's tape and sheets and a few hours of your time - you can pull it off without unmounting the tires and wheels. Few members here already did it. I'm planning to paint my nismo wheels black soon.

I'm a powdercoater. If you get them powdercoated, they will have to be dismounted and remounted, and you will have to do that yourself, not the powdercoater. As an alternative for a pretty nice finish, you can talk to a local body shop and see if they will do them. If you really want to do it on a budget, you could probably get Maaco or Earl Scheib, if they are still around, to do them fairly cheaply and they will still look better than spray paint.

thank you guys for the reply..woow...a lot of money...$$$$$$$$

I didn't know that I have to unmount the wheels and tires.

I thought the rim shop people would do it for me. hmmm

And if I would to spray paint the rims, do I still have to unmount them?

^ it doesn't require dismounting if you do it yourself. But make sure to cover and tape all the areas you are not trying to paint on purpose. Now, its cheapest if done by yourself. It would cost about $25 to $x.xx depending on how fancy you want it to be. I painted my own valence and fangs, costed me $6 for both satin black and satin coat - $5 for a roll of tape - and $10 for paint sheets.

Check out this DIY wheel paint:
