I think the term overlay has everyone thinking of the cheesy stick on dash kits that are like paper. What Im getting that they are saying is they are basically making a mold of a part and form fitting a piece for it, this piece will be stuck down. As someone who has worked with carbon fiber many times, this is exactly how I would do the gauge "hats" since they are not readily removeable. Its basically the same as "wrapping" say the switch plates, since its nothing more than a piece of carbon fiber resined onto the plastic then floodcoated and finished. Only this is taped down rather than resined in place. Its no different than the fang overlay that everyone uses, a hardened piece of CF form fitting.
Now someone from Carbon Signal correct me if Im offbase here.

I would be in if it was not stick on. Not sure I understand why it would be much harder to make parts that replace the OEM part. Stick on add thickness to the parts and look amateurish which I would accept if I was doing it myself but paying for amateurish look makes no sense to me. Too bad as this would look really good.

joebarchuck - parts like the door switch has more than just a plain flat piece with contour. if you look inside, it has to have snap feature, be able to hold the mechanical switch modules, etc. it's quite 3 dimensional.... so it's more involved and would cost too much $$$ to replace the entire thing from the core.

plus warranty is going to be tough cause some folks push/pull on the switches pretty damn hard and it can break the CF trim entirely.

next best is to wrap the existing factory bits in CF...which you've seen vendors here do.

then this current overlay approach with no down time.

You might be seeing the outter picture of these interior parts but if you look closely to the inside of some parts like the door switch its quite complicated to replace the whole thing, not worth the money/time and not to mention they can be broken easily if not removed carefully. Will try to post a picture of some OEM interior part which we have apart to show what I mean.

BTW, we are almost done with the first set of CF interior kit and should have installed/finished product pictures in a few days.

Hi guys, I guess my post stirred some dirt and it was not my intention. I was not criticizing the people choosing to go this route nor the company making these parts.

I understand the labor required to make the equivalent of the OEM part and I myself would go the route to have the OEM part either painted or CF wrapped. Now that's me and I respect all others who prefer what Carbon Signal has to offer.
