Homelink Mirror Rattle, ANNOYING!

My Touring homelink mirror has developed a rattle that drives me bananas. I've taken my radar detector, EZ Pass, and aftermarket blutooth microphone out of the list of possible offenders and the mirror is the only thing left where the rattle originates.

Anyone else have a rattling homelink mirror? It's something internal as pressing on the mirror, connector, case, buttons, etc doesn't stop the rattle.

Hey Alex, ya mine rattles too sometimes intill I adjust it and it stops for alil bit. It does get annoying, but if I blast my music I never really notice it anymore.

Had the same problem with my 350Z homelink mirror never could get it to stop and I went in and hit every thing with silicon caulking...

I finally figured out it was the buttons that were loose. Never took it apart to fix that. Just sold the car and got a 370... I hope my homelink does not develop the homelink rattle...

warranty replacement?

mine rattles, but if i hold the mirror it goes away, i'm going to try some black sound damping on it this weekend, see if the extra wieght is enough

Keep me posted. I've touched the buttons gently while it's rattling and that doesn't seem to fix it for me. It's got to be something internal. It didn't always do it, which is particularly annoying.

Kenchan, I know all too well what warranty replacement would mean. They'd first say I have to make a weekday appointment. Then I'd have to leave the car for no good reason. Then I'd have to come back once they've ordered the part or be without the car for a week while they wait for it. I'm much more inclined to remove the mirror and take the whole thing apart.

Sweet. Thanks, Jim. I always use the advanced Google search for our forum but sometimes forget the general Google approach. Looks like I have a project this weekend. Also going to adjust the parking brake...did you guys know it needs a bed-in process of holding 44.8lbs of force on the handle at 25mph for 15sec? (5min breaks in between to prevent overheating). Maybe this is why mine sucks.

Same here, but only during cold starts or pulling through 2-2,500rpm where the exhaust resonates.

Yep, I did know that this is the embed process, but didn't know the force required. Did this when first acquiring the 370Z as the parking brake wouldn't hold on the slightest of inclines.

It's in the inside. I had that happen in my 350Z. There is a DIY on my 350z .com obv no spaces.

You will need to take it apart and put some sort of foam to keep the board pinched against the plastic.

I thought my rattle was the mirror for a while but mine ended up being the plastic housing for the overhead lights. I've got three rattles that I plan to fix this spring, overhead lights, something in the trunk (probably the plastic panels), and the satelite radio harness that goes down the passenger B pillar. The rattles are intermittent and don't happen much except the trunk rattle. Any time I lay into the gas that one goes bonkers. It was barely noticeable before the aftermarket exhaust but yeah now it goes nuts everytime. If I manage to fix those I'll be very happy.

I finally got around to taking the mirror off and trying to stop the rattle. Sad to say that I got stymied at opening the mirror up. I've just gnarled the seam all the way around, but she's sealed up tighter than a...well, you know what I mean.

Sigh. What to do? I'm so sick of this rattle.

DIGItonium 07-17-2011 01:01 AM

I would love to pull the mirror apart. AZ sells felt tape, so you can probably apply it to the mirror bezel to make it silent.

I also used the felt tape to wrap some wires that kept rattling in the headliner.

Lastly... I'm getting rattles in the strut bar area. The sound makes me think the sub is blown.
