NISMO Titanium Shift Knob installed!!!!
ALRIGHT!!! Thank you to everyone on this forum. I got it done! I used a combination of everyone's suggestions and it worked like a charm So I used: 1) Robo-grip pliers and rubber protection on plier teeth (both from Sears) 2) Strap wrench (from Sears) That's it! Since the Robo-grip pliers had the red rubber protection, I used my left hand and gripped it straight on the shaft after lowering the boot. No marring on the shaft. Then I used my right hand on the strap wrench straight on the stock knob. Voila! It gave IMMEDIATELY. No marring on the knob whatsoever. It was a matter of having the right tools and the right leverage. That stock knob was on there tight though, after loosening it with the strap wrench, I figured I could just loosen it the rest of the way with my hands... but I was wrong. I pretty much had to use the strap wrench all the way till the knob was almost off. This was my setup. You can see the robo pliers on the left, and the strap wrench on the knob. What a wonderful combo. Stock knob is off!!! No damage to it (front and back)!!! Look at ALL that Loctite on the shaft threads!!! And here she is all installed!!! I love it!!! I was surprised the whole affair took me 15 minutes total... just needed the right tools... amazing. I love the new Nismo knob on there. I haven't driven her yet, but am looking forward to it!!! It looks and feels good though however... exactly the look I am looking for. Thank you again to EVERYone who chimed in and the existing DYI's posted in this forum. You guys are a tremendous help.

Nice knob. Lets see the auto trans guys get something that cool.

Thanks bud! I thought so too. The titanium look goes well with the brushed aluminum trim in the console and around the interior.
Thank you! Yeah I think I saw a DIY on here too for a auto trans knob change. Not sure why it would be needed, since you'd just touch it twice during your drive (one to start, one to park). But hey, to each his own, maybe if I had an AT, maybe I'd change it too

I would have to agree with you 100%, definitely more sporty. I had a G35C prior, and I don't think that knob would have worked well with that "look". Z is pure sports.... G was more touring...

Nice! You got the open-O design too! The only thing I changed was the rubber washer, it was too fat and turned grey with prolong use. So I went to home depot and bought multiple thin ones, I think it looks a little bit better.

Thanks Kenchan... I appreciate your suggestions and comment too, throughout this process and in my other thread
No problem... I didn't think I really did a full DIY, it was actually pretty simple. I obviously omitted discussing the steps about lifting the console and putting a piece of cloth to protect the rest of the console from tooling marks and accidental scratches. The robo pliers were 25 bucks for a set of two sizes (one big one small). I felt like it had a much better grip and easier to handle. The strap wrench is just an awesome piece of invention It was only 13 bucks for a set of 2 sizes. A must have for anyone I think. Go for it!!! Quote:
That looks good too! What does the open O mean?

Nice. Put that rubber stopper thing under the shift boot.
You can kinda get a feel for how it looks in this pic from my album: (**EDIT: I forgot to mention I have the B&M short shifter so it may fit/look different..) Hope you like it!

It means the " O " in NISMO is actually a letter " O " and not a circle.
I tried exactly like yours 3SeventyZ, but my hand is too big for it (LOL) so I needed more bottom space but the rubber base was ugly.

I didn't even know that the Nismo titanium knob came with two options? Or is it just a matter of one being older than the other? So do I have the "good" version then?
