i used this strap wrench and just had a freind stabalize the shifter as i pushed on the strap wrench. If I hadn't read on here how hard it was to remove I would never have got it off. You have to push so hard your thinking oh **** something is going to break.

I used 2 strap wrench packs from auto zone and broke both packs twice. The third pack is causing the wrench to slip on the knob because the knob is really smooth

No issues removing OEM shift knob. All it required was Duct Tape, a strap wrench that you can buy for 10 bucks at Lowes, and some sort of wrench.
Inside your knob they have loctite around the first couple of threads...harder ones probably more. Once you break that seal its easy peasy. The last pic is of the inside of the OEM shift knob..notice the crud..thats loctite. |

Raj put tape around the knob. I used hockey tape because it is not smooth and because it's Canada.

I put painters tape on first so the glue from hockey tape does not mess up the knob.

The concern is that if you don't end up liking the new knob, you can't go back if you ruin the old one. At least that was my concern.

Same here I agree, and I'm not posting because I care about the money, I am posting because why ruin something when I don't have to? If I can keep the stock in tact then that is 120$ more in my pocket that I saved. -Raj
