OEM shift knob removal (SEARCHED)

but you still need to make a collar inside the boot regardless to keep the boot up. i use packing material from wire shelves... and hell i have a ton

Stock knob is h*ll. I broke two strap wrenches already. Going to give it another go tomorrow. Shift knob still intact for now.

Hold the shifter arm / shaft with a set of vise grips then strap wrench on the knob. Have somebody hold the vise grips for you. Thats what I did while hubby worked the strap wrench. It broke loose finally. You removed the boot-right?

I have the stock shifter knob and like it as is. If I were to take the OEM off, I would grab 1 mouse pad and cut it in half. Wrap one around the base and the other piece around the knob. Apply two pipe wrenches and twist. Pipe wrenches can get just about anything loose given you have space to turn them.

You need a bigger wrench and need to grab it closer to where it connect the rod. The other pipe wrench needs to up high closer to the knob. With a big enough wrench and space, it will turn if not bust and tear apart. If it tears apart, it can't be helped as it was put on by Jeebus himself.

yah, mine looked like it was dipped in thread lock when i took it off.

i broke 2 strap wrenches and i was like f- it. used my oil filter wrench and twisted it off.
i bought a used one from a local guy (no scratches) who said he had no issue removing his stock knob from his 370z.

currently my Z runs twm biggie type-r

I used strap wrenches on bottom and rotated between vice grips and the pipe wrench to hold the shaft. There are marks on the shaft from the vice grips
