The need for a Second Cupholder
Hey Everyone,
Now that the nicer weather is finally coming, the Z has come out of hibernation from the winter. My wife and I where out driving yesterday and hit the starbucks drive-thru. Ordered (2) Grande Coffee's...only one problem, ever tried to fit a Grande coffee in the Passenger Door cup well? So I pose this question to the forum, has anybody tried a DIY on a second cupholder or now a nice little add-on pop-out style cupholder. There is a lot of space to fit one behind the console lid. |
There is a second cup holder in the center armrest. Just open it and voila, but I suspect you are lacking that cup holder piece.

I guess I'm referring to the one in front of the console. Not in it. I see what your saying now. Yea that sucks for two.
|
well i know my 2009 370z I have (1) cupholder on the center console, (1 or 2) cupholders if you open the armrest, and (1) each side of door panels.....
I think thats enough cupholders for a two sitter.... I wouldnt even waste your money on a DYI, just make your wife hold her own damn cup BWAHAHAHAHA |
I believe Part 96925P is the tray that fits into the center console compartment. It has several divided compartments, including a cup holder. Looks pretty reasonable for OEM part at $30, although I'm sure it's about $1.50 worth of materials and labor.

Wait a minute. Why can't your wife just hold her drink. What is she doing with her hands at the time?;)

Just be glad you have one

Yea there have been times I wish there were 2 cup holders in there. Don't even call those things in the doors cup holders because they're only designed to hold bottles of water or something that's sealed.
Also make sure your passenger knows this because my gf one time put her almost finished cup of starbucks in there and sure enough some of it spilled. It would have been much worse if the cup was actually full. Oh well, only one drink at a time in the car lol |
So I got the part ordered from Nissan and the dam thing doesn't come with any openings for the 12V plug or the navi options?
Does the tray fit in over top of those features and you remove the tray if want access to them? Did Nissan order me the right on? Thanks for the help. |
That's ridiculous for the 12V outlet. I can see Nissan overlooking the nav options, but that would still be stupid. I am interested in this option, but if I can't access the 12V, then I'm better off fabricating something myself from scratch. Can anyone with a 2009 and the console insert answer 1SweetZ's question?
|
I have been playing with it for an hour and can say that the tray is a perfect fit in the opening. There are (2) foam bumpers on the side to retain the lid inside the opening. I pulled those off and the tray comes in and out pretty easy.
I will have to mod the part and cut some circular openings in the tray to access the 12V plug and the ipod USB interface. Small PITA factor. Any word from 2009 Z owners on the different navi tray option? |

Do you just store it behind the seat when you don't need it.
It is kinda useless and I see why Nissan deleted it for MY 2010 Going to do a little modification to it to see if I can make some openings in the cupwell. |
You have a Auto just hold it, not like you need to do anything else with your other hand :stirthepot: J/k LOL
|
I too wish there was just ONE more cup holder in the center...my 350 was rediculus, 6 of them, 4 in the center(2 in the box) and 1 in each door. I have the bad habit of Copenhagen...would like one for the spitter and one for a drink.
|
lol I don't allow drinks or good in my car
|
Woohoo! My 2009 is better than your disfunctional 2010!
|
so I thought it over
just can't bring myself to worry about cupholders I tried |
My tray is behind the seat. When i need it i just take it out. The only thing i sacrifice while using the tray is my phone charger. My other volt is already occupied for my detector.
