I've seen this done on lots of exotics when I lived in Vegas, I think it looks awesome. Not sure how it affects visibility though.
|
I understand tinting the front windshield for exotics and show cars as they don't ever see street driving, but doing it on a daily driver is just dangerous for the owner and for other drivers on the roads. Whats worst is for the pedestrians that cross roads at night. I say don't do it, but ultimately its up to the OP, and from what is seems like, he/she is already set on doing it. I just hope nothing bad happens resulting from the "cool" factor of tinting the front windshield.

Tint on front windshield.
:hello:
I would like to apply just "clear" windshield tint. Real and only object of this is to prevent/reduce damage from stone chips that I always seem to get. I'm in Kali (CA), and I suppose that even clear would be illegal? Has anyone else used this logic? My previous Honda had many, and all the windscreen chip repairs, would more than cover cost of film. My Z is lower so it will probably "attract" more stone chips. Also considering the clear body panel film type kits. Any thoughts on self install of these? The sellers make it look easy!! Thanks, Alan PS. First blog entry. Picked up my 370z 7AT base Pearl 2010 yesterday. |

Don't worry about it, you most likely won't be able to tell it's even tinted. It does make a huge difference in terms of heat, though. |
ive got 30% in the front 10% everywhere else, ehh it aint so bad.

As far as I know the only things illegal on the front windshield are tints, a clear film over it will not incur any tickets unless specifically mandated (and I don't see why you'd ever ban them). Many people have had clear bras installed on their Z's fronts to help belay rock chips. Use the search tool and type in all kinds of things; despite the relatively short life of this forum, you will find much wisdom (and a lot of bad jokes and puns). |

Don't underestimate the attention it will get you from police though. Even though my registration noted that it was OK, I still got pulled over all the time, and got tickets despite showing the paperwork for permission. I eventually wound up deciding it was not worth it... |
Ive had 35% all around for over a year and so far zero problems. I will be going darker later and i think it looks awesome. Do what makes you happy, but just be prepared for the worst(tint tix).

dont do 50%. i have 50% on my side/rear windows (and it looks kind of dark at night) and am considering 70-80% on my front windshield for heat rejection purposes. its essentially clear with a very, very slight tint. if you do it right (meaning not dark), its not anymore dangerous than not having it tinted.

I have 30% tint all the way around and a 4.5 inch visor strip across the windshield at 5%. Nice during the day can be a little dark at night. Different states have different tolerances so you may want to ask the tint people when making your choice.

Here you go, OP. I suggest you get it. Kinda overkill on the pics but whatever. better more than less.
