Front license plate - Stillen or Show and Go?
So, im going to have to get a front license plate and refuse to drill holes in my bumper.
Stillen looks good but its on there and i have to physically remove it, which isnt difficult but i dont wanna. The show and go also looks good but I'm hesitant due to the rice factor(IMO) and i wonder if a small fender bender would push that control arm through the radiator, which would make for a big mess. Not that i plan on hitting someone, but s*** happens. What do you guys think? A front plate is a must for me, i don't want any reason for a cop to pull me over. Even a fix it ticket is a hassle, especially in Houston. Thanks! |
Go no plate, it is what I do. ;)
I had the stillen one for awhile but felt it takes away from the car. I believe someone made a setup which goes in the center and requires no drilling but will have to look tonight. Oh, if you are not doing anything this weekend you should come out to the Baker meet Saturday. |
Which baker, i love beer!
|
Baker North on 290 @ 11am(ish) till around 4-5.

Houston here also,, I haven't had a license plate on any of my vehicles in the past 9 yrs.. I do remember getting a license plate ticket about 16 yrs ago..
I hope I just didn't jinx myself.. LOL |
Just tell the officer the dealership did not give you a bracket for it and you have been trying to get in contact with them to give you one. And then move into how hard it is to deal with dealerships which might give you the sympathy card.

i might be able to make that, i have to be at baker nissan south for the back hatch fix and to get another key sat at 2pm. They tried to get away with giving me only one key on a used 26k car. I'm getting one for free
|
Ah, yeah do not let them do that.
Hope to see you out there. I found the plate holder I was thinking of and the guy ended up doing a little bit of cutting so might not be what you want. http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...ternative.html |
I personally like the look of the Stillen plate, but I'm kind of weird like that. I think the offset look adds to the look of the car.

After a couple of months I bought the Stillen for my 40th. I had it on for 2 days, thought the plate looked like S#!% and took it off. I'm keeping the Stillen holder, but most likely will take my chances w/o a front plate. I haven't had plates on my Supra, Acura or Corvette in the past and didn't have any problems. The Z attracts attention and I figure my luck is due to run out soon.

I've been content with the show n go on mine, I can drive worry free with the plate hidden.
Each to his own though... |
didn't mean to revive this old thread, but, I actually just drilled two tiny holes in the indents of the black molding on the front bumper, for the bracket holder. I used two very small screws to secure the plate with washers front and back. The holes are smaller than the indent, so with the plate removed, you can't tell the holes are there... voila.

Anyone else with the Stillen license plate holder notice their oil temps consistently running higher than without it on? I haven't done a test to confirm it, but it seems like my oil temps settle in around 210F on a 65F day with the Stillen license plate holder on and 195F without. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but it seems like the license plate holder blocks the air flow enough to make a difference.

I've seen oil temps around 210-220 on cool days too, city driving, of course average temps are around 180-190.... I would think that's normal and well within operating range.

Also, how secure do you think it is? the plates arent very light for two tiny screws. |
