Got my 370Z tinted today!
It's an absolutely beautiful day! Outside temparature is 60 degrees. Z is completely broken in. What can be more enjoyable than driving 90 miles to the tint place in Feasterville, PA? ;)
Just came back from Shades of gray tint in feasterville, PA. They are one of the BEST in the Tristate area. I went with the 40%. They were saying if I'm debating between 30% vs 40%, I should def go with 40%. It will almost look 35% because of limited light inside the Z. They were correct! The tint is perfect. I am very happy with hue of it. 40% is so classy on this car. If you want to retain the classiness of this new Z, def go with 40%. If you live in hot areas like FL or AZ, 30% shouldn't be too bad either. IMO, after seeing my tint, 20% will give you the "blacked out" look on this car. You can get away with it if you have White or silver car, but you're on your own. Here are some pictures: http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...f-DSC01523.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01531.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01532.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01533.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01534.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01538.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01541.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01542.jpg Btw, it was the first 370Z they ever did. |
Looks fantastic, now you have me thinking 30% may be to much, will have to see my friends car (he has 30%). Going 90 huh, must be nice to have such high speed limits up their. ;)

Beautiful, and you have completely convinced me that 40% is it for our Z too.
|
Absolutely beautiful.
You picked the best percentage. I had mine done at 35% and it looks a bit darker than what I anticipated due to Z has less window area for light to get in. |
i got mine from Nissan w/40%, not happy with it because it doesn't do much blocking of the heat here in texas. im gonna be going to 30%
car/tint looks good AK  |
Looks really good AK!
|
Looks good, I'm going to be doing mine here in a few weeks. Most likely 35% doors, 20% rears. I think a darker rear window is a definite since you can see everything in the hatch rather easily, moreso than when I had the 350z.
|
AK talk to me about the shades of gray spot... how long did you wait? what did they charge? Is Feasterville up 95?
|
Great looking car.

Yes, AK, tell us about that spot. I know exactly where it is. Have actually driven by it a few weeks ago, should have stopped by. Im convinced 40% is the way to go, except that I'm wondering if I should go darker in the back, so that people won't be able to see into the trunk area. What do you all think of that, would going to like 30% make it impossible to glance-into the rear? dont really want to go darker than 30%. |
That looks great. I also like the llumar as you get looks plus excellent heat rejection.
Ceramic tint may cost a bit more, but it offers superior heat rejection and no radio interference. |

Exit 35 off I-95N. Very professional and probably the best in the area. I was the only one in the morning today so it only took them 1 hour. I think 1-1.5 Hour is the average time. You can call them for pricing but I have pm'ed you what they charged me. BTW, since you're in SJ (or I'm assuming you are), they are cheaper than ANY of my local place by at least $50:icon14:. Also, they use the BEST tint films. |
AK omggggg your car looks hotttttttt!! now my turn!!
|
Looks good, I got mine done on Sunday but havnt been able to get pics of it yet. I ended up going with 30%, doesnt look too dark but the brighness of the yellow really sets it off for me.
Has everything cured on yours yet? Mine still has a couple bubbles in the back and passenger side. It hasnt been too warm here so hopefully those clear up soon. |

yea but rarely (and never that i've ever seen in nissans) metallic tint can interfere with TPMS sensor signals to the car, we had some issues with that in some caddy's, mostly CTS' and SRX's that had aftermarket tint on the front windows...
again, this wasn't typical, i've got metallic tint on my front windows in the truck and have never had a problem ever |

think all 2006 models of everything had to have TPMS, thank you US DOT:ugh2:

I'm kinda bummed that it didnt have the multi computer readout of the realtime PSI per wheel like the 350z had... I loved that feature.
|
AK, that looks great. 40% is perfect. I got my altima done at Shades of Gray. Great quality work. I got 30% all the way around and it turned out darker than I thought. I will definitely be getting 40% on my Z.

looks good. i just had limo tint put on all the way around my monteray blue. looks great.
|
I live in SoCal, so I got 32% all around tint done by the guys at Car Audio Heaven. They used my favorite tint brand, Diamond, and did a great job. only downside is that i had to leave my windows up for the last 2 days and its been absolutely beautiful here in San Diego.

Weak Spot
I was driving the other day and made a shocking discovery. Tint area close to the side view mirror is peeling. I called Shades of gray and set up an appointment to come in.
Upon arrival, I was told that some G37s have this issue as well. This is NOT something new but they didn't expect 370Z to have it. They are actually going to pay extra attention to this area on all incoming 370Zs. They quickly removed my old tint and put a brand new tint on - no questions ask. Their installation carries lifetime warranty . I have also noticed that instead of having a corner, they cut an oval shape border by the side view mirror area this time. So, if you're getting your tint done, tell them to pay special attention to this area and if possible cut an "oval" shape border instead of a corner. Also, tell them to use the heat gun for a little longer than usual and keep the door open (they may forget sometimes that our glass DOES go up/down ) http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01593.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01268.jpg http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/s...t/DSC01596.jpg |
Mine have the same problem the next day of installation. Second time around, they installed the film lower than the window edge.
Since then, no problems yet. |
the peeling problem is pretty common. my friend with an is250 had to get tints done 3 freakin' times before it didn't peel. and the place was recommended.
|
The car looks awesome with the tint!
I will have to keep my eyes on my windows for the same thing. |
my brother had that problem in his g37.
when i get mine tinted, i'm going for 15%. Have it on my MINI and love it! |
AK,
So I finally got mine done at Shades Of Gray this weekend. I think they did a really nice job. On top of that, they were super quick. I was literally only their for an hour. I was amazed. In my previous experience, other shops take at least twice as long. 40% LLumar Film Installed |
FYI, there is a little button on each door sill that when released cracks the window. You can tape that button down for a few days if you are concerned about your new tint curing.
|
^^ Oh wow....good to know...thanks. So far so good. Nothing wrong with the tint so far.
However, I was a little concerned about that at first since our windows lower a little bit each and every time the door opens. Tomorrow is the last day that I'll have to worry about it. Thanks again. |
Tint looks amazing! I'll take note of the corner when I go to do mine. :p

Just an update: I'm very happy with my 40%. Even in the middle of the summer, I feel comfortable sitting in the car. |
Oklahoma's limit is 25%, which is what I'm getting...maybe 20...or 15...lol ;)
I just have to see it, and how much it costs. 25% is as high as I'll go though. I'm wondering if I can get away with tinting the windshield a bit...like 50% |
