i think it is kind of odd that they would do just this part and not any others (door panels etc.)

Door panels already have alcantara. The knee pads now tie the door panels into the rest of the car nicely.

I just ordered a set of these for $120 from the dealership. I had to go to hell and back to find the right part apparently my parts guy was saying theres a different code for touring, 40th aniv,etc. I ended up having to find him a VIN off a roadster just to be sure. Also it looks like the 2010 roadsters have the alcantara too not just the 2011.

Oh sry forgot its 96993 ietoa and 96992 ietoa. I have no idea what the letters are for but thats what he gave me.

mynissanparts.com has them. Just search for 370Z Roadster -> Console -> Center console -> Side panel -> Convertible. I'm pretty sure those are the alcantara pads. Oh and $39 per pad plus $12 S&H.
