For those of you who like lighting
I am still working on my lights installing switchback leds in the front turn signals(which take a 7444na bulb which is dual element)but for some reason our cars only use 1 side of the bulb(for turn signal) the other side is not used meaning you only have a turn signal at the top of your headlights.
But by looking at the back of the socket you will see 3 wires 1 + for turn signal 1 - for the turn signal and 1 black wire running thru the protected sheath but at the other end of it you only see 2 wires coming out,if you pull the black wire out of the sheath you see that it is not hooked up if you connect this wire to the yellow parking lamp wire you now have a parking light/turn signal with the stock bulb or any other 7444/7443 bulb you desire. My switchback are white parking light then change to amber when the turn signal is activated, here are some pics to show you what I mean. here you see the white led bulb on top w/parking lights on only http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...3/IMG_0507.jpg here is a pic both headlights only parking lights on http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...3/IMG_0508.jpg here is a pic of the headlights on low beam http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...3/IMG_0510.jpg another pic showing headlights on both sides low beam http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...3/IMG_0509.jpg and last a still pic of what the turn signal looks when blinking http://i832.photobucket.com/albums/z...3/IMG_0511.jpg |
I am looking forward to seeing how this whole project turns out when everything is put back together and you get some better pics

Very interested to see the final result. If it looks good, you should consider posting a DIY.

Very nice! I've seen this done with the side markers before but never the turn signal. Cool idea!
|
Is it the black w/yellow wire or the solid yellow one? I trying it now :)

Yes, the black w/ yellow is the same that goes to the turn signal so I figured it had to be the solid one. I had thought about doing this before, but I was thinking i was gonna need to get different socket, bulb and extra wire. I was assuming and never checked the harness lol. +rep for figuring this out and sharing. Thanks!!

Where did u get the switchback leds? Do they blink faster than the regular bulbs?

I also have the ordered the 194 parking light led's and am awaiting their arrival. Not trying to thread jack, but I ordered some 6000K HID bulbs and tried to replace my headlamps the other night. When I installed one of the bulbs, I tested before I reinstalled the fender liner and the bulb flickered and just turned off. I then tried the other bulb with the same result. Any ideas ? Here are the bulbs I ordered in 6000K Morimoto 3Five D2S (35w) - HID Bulbs from The Retrofit Source Inc. |

I was wondering if I was sent the wrong wattage bulbs, would that make a difference ? The packaging didn't say what wattage they were. |

Yeah, I am 100% sure it was not installation error. I have already contacted the company and am awaiting a reply. It just sucks, cause it's a real pain to get in there to change the bulb without removing the wheel.
I think I'm just going to wait until I receive all my bulbs so I can do it all at once. Headlights are looking great on your car !!! |

I don't know where to get the projector lens (CinCity worked on my headlights). The lens cuts down the depth for the bulbs. I made some triple Luxeon Rebel bulbs, but the bulb was too tall with the heatsink and resistors. Plus, it sat too close to the lens which ruined the diffused look. Next time, I will ditch the resistors and opt for a BuckToot driver externally wired inline with the turn signal wires. The bulb will end up shorter, so it'll fit nicely. However, the next time I do any of this stuff I may end up getting another set of headlights and start all over. |
Pretty cool,if I would have known about them I may have bought a set.
|
^ Did you work on your existing set and endured some down time? Also, did you use the heat gun method to separate the housing? I wonder if it's safer than the oven method. My current headlights started to develop some stress cracks, and the paint cracked and is spewing some caramel-like substance near the turn signal.

Its just funny that both bulbs for the three of us have the same issue. You would expect at least one to be good..maybe the Z doesn't like aftermarket bulbs?
