Undercarriage DENT/RUST

8 Attachment(s)
So when i was having my coilovers installed a few months back and the car was on the lift, I and some other members here (esfourteen, chuckd05, red6sd) all noticed there was this big dent on the underside of my car, not sure if its the frame or a brace or what not, but anywys, it looked like something BIG hit the underside of my car at speed. this happened prior to my coilover install so it was at stock height.

It appears to have started rusting and i'm not sure if the damage is significant or whether i need to address this or not, and if so, what to do about the rust and or the bent brace/frame part.

Those pictures are horrible :D Are you the only one that drives the car, looks like somebody hit/ drug it across something... Go ahead and ask me how I know, you should have seen the bottom of my truck :rofl2:

I can't really tell what exactly that is so I'm not sure how important it is or how much it matters that it is mangled. Your best bet would be to take it to a body shop or the dealer if your not sure.
As for the rust it's not a big deal, it's only surface rust. You should be able to sand it off pretty easily then you can paint it, they also make paints that you can just spray over rust that would probably work fine. There are also different kinds of spray to prevent rust, fluid film is one that is supposed to be pretty good.

nah i'm the only one that drives the car. i remember driving on the Tappan Zee bridge a few months ago and hearing a loud noise from under my car. usually i'm on the lookout for road debris etc but this caught me off guard, no idea what it was, but thats must have been what did it.

any names for the products you mentioned? i'd prefer something that didn't require sanding, since its gonna be hard for me to sand every nook and cranny under in there.

thanks for the help repped both of you

Rustolium. Just clean with wire brush, blast it with brake cleaner (RC car motor spray for me) and just spray. You can also use duplicolor engine enamel. Those have very strong bond.

If it's really dented, $164 buys you a new one.
