Understood.

I haven't had the same experience that you seem to have had...I've been using such vinyl bras since my first Trans Am ('73) and on every vehicle Ive had since (that I cared about anyway). I've found them pretty easy to use if it's a good design (and not something cheap; picked up at Autozone)...I guess they can be a pain in the *** although so car covers aren't the easiest thing to deal with either but I still use them.

"Clear Bra paint protection film was originally developed for the military to prevent damage to helicopter rotor blades. Clear Bra paint protection film eventually moved into the aircraft and racing industry to protect the sponsor clad paint jobs that used to require a repaint after every race. Now it is available to our clients to protect their daily drivers, RV's, exotics, motorcycles and race cars."

Sounded good to me, so I had this put on my 40th. I couldn't be happier. It cleans very easily and has spared me several chips already. I saw a rock about the size of a nickel come up and make contact with my fender where it meets the hood (well above where a regular bra goes to) and I was certain that even with the clear bra I would have one hell of a chip. It barely scuffed the bra. None of my friends even notice the scuff, and its hard for me to see and I know it's there.

I'm not trying to add fuel to the fire here, but the clear bra is bad ***. I had my entire hood, front fascia, full fenders, A-pillars, and mirrors done. I was skeptical that a thin piece of film could hold up to rocks and such, but it works great. If the old school bra is what you like, then good luck in your quest to find one. But I just wanted to add that these things really are awesome and at least worth checking in to. I have no visible lines and it is nearly impossible to see, with all of the benefits of having a traditional bra convering everything.

Hope you find what you're looking for either way!

I don't doubt it.

I use vinyl bras for a number of reasons; one is that despite some people's opinions, I like how they look. Another is that once off the car, the front end looks as if the car has never left the showroom (it seems to me that having a clearbra on, while it may protect the finish, still requires the same amount of cleaning up at the end of the trip which is something I seek to avoid with a bra).

The most important reason is for protection...whether or not the clearbra material will protect as well, I can't say; I can also imagine that what a particular piece of road debris is (shape/weight/how it strikes the vehicle) can make a difference??? What I can say is that my '07 350, while doing 70+MPH, took a hit from a piece of shroud that came off a camper's AC unit - while it put a hole in the bra, it didn't even leave a mark on the front fascia...maybe the clearbra would have worked as well; I don't know.

To each his own but I suppose it's moot anyway...I'm sure that there aren't enough NISMO Z out there to justify anyone having a bra one on the market.

The other thing to consider here is a clear bra will cover the lights, mirrors, roof/A pillars, rocker panels, and anywhere else on the car that gets chips. Vinyl bras wont do that. Clear bras will stop anything a vinyl bra will.... and if its large enough to go through the bra its large enough to damage the panel (as in break/dent it).

I ahve talekd to numerous people over the years who have had damage from vinyl bras. They simply can not fit tight enough to not vibrate at highway speeds. Add a little dirt under the bra, which will get under there, and you have instant sand paper. You also have to remove them everytime they get wet or they will hold water into the clear coat causing it to haze. If left on all the time the paint will fade at a different rate as the rest of the vehicle because the rst of the car is getting UV exposure. And finally.. they are ugly. Sorry but they are.

No question those are valid points.

I've been using vinly bras, literally, since 1978...I've never had a problem with the paint or with scratches or fluttering (if you buy a good, well-made product). Most of the concerns raised by everyone isn't a problem for me in my situation - except for rare occasions, the cars I put bras on don't come out of the garage if the weather is bad...on those occasions where I do get caught in the rain, the important thing is to not let the bra dry on the car. Using them does take some care; I guess I'm just used to the effort.

The other part of this for me is that I have a different Z every year - I can use a good bra for at least two seasons; sometime three which represents quite a cost savings over putting clearbra on every new vehicle...I suppose if I had a car I was keeping for years, I'd probably put the clearbra product on but likely still use a vinyl bra because at the end of the day, I hate having to clean bug guts off my front end whether the front end is just paint or paint with clearbra on it.
