NISSAN nismo 370 cover RUINS paint
Bought the ridiculously expensive genuine nissan 370z nismo car cover before i went on a underway on the sub. Well after a month, i come back and start my standard ******** procedure of getting the car all prepped and ready to drive again. battery...check resetting stupid safety auto window thing....check so on and so forth. then after giving the car one final look around (since it initially looked perfect) i noticed something under the rear nissan badge on the deck lid/rear bumper. there is a clear plastic/rubber see through thing on the back of the car cover to allow people to see your license plate while covered......for whatever ******* reason they would need too. well in a perfect square..... conveniently the size of the plastic piece, the paint was raised and bubbled, almost melted. a HUGE 1.5 square foot section of the back of my ******* car is now destroyed because i spent 200$ on a car cover thats specifically designed for this car????? you have got to be ******* kidding me. pics wont show it, as it deflects the light really weird. so i will upload a vid i took with my ipod if someone could inform me of the best way to do that.

That seems like a design fault, the clear plastic probably worked like a greenhouse, collecting the heat...
They should fix it for you...

That is one of the reasons I would rather deal with the elements over a car cover, that is very odd though since I wouldn't have thought it could hold enough heat to affect the paint. Maybe it was humidity combined with intense heat, that is definitely strange.

The one missing factor is how hot was the temp were the z was stored?
Seems like maybe hot temp peeking thru the garage door or window opening would explain the magnified meltdown on that part of the cover. Sorry to hear about this but I find that the some covers aren't designed for extreme heat or cold. Pics would have been nice. Good Luck |

Entirely Nissan's Fault and Not Yours
Surprising (or unsurprisingly) the nitwits at Nissan USA most likely specified a car cover from a US vendor under the Nissan license as the reason is your cover's license plate see-through plastic reacted to the paint additives used for painting plastic parts.
This is not a new problem, for example, Griot's Garage sells a plastic similar (of lesser mil thickness with a backside light adhesive) to what is used for your license see-through to protect lower door valances to protect them from being kicked with shoes. However, they learned the hard way that it was removing the paint from plastic painted valances, and now clearly state that it not for plastic painted surfaces. Conclusion:
Thanks for serving our country.

Costco has excellent all weather car covers specifically designed for the vehicle. I have one for my G35 and it even fits over the body kit. I also had one for my old S2K and it fit like a glove. Protected it from rain, wind, sun, falling ashes from a local fire. For me there is no other cover I would ever buy. May want to check into these in the future. There is no hole for the lic plate either.

The car was not actualy stored in a garage.... I'm stationed In Guam and it was parked in a deployed parking lot. I specifically got the "outdoors" model of the cover for this reason. The rest of the cover worked fine and the car still had the showroom shine I just put on it prior to leaving. With the exception of the back..... I have talked to Nissan about this already and they said it has never happened before so there giving me the week wait for a response from the manufacture runaround and quite frankly I'm pissed. OF COURSE IT'S NEVER HAPPENED I'm the first mother fucker on Guam to have a 370 let alone a nismo model! So it goes without saying they have never seen a issue with the 370 nismo cover.... Seeing as yet again I'm the ONLY person with it here. I'm on leave for a limited amount of time and go on another ******** 2 month deployment again soon and don't have time for Nissan to give me the Holliday lazy F u c k run around. So u recommend they comp me for the cover as well as paint? Will they make me give the cover back? I was just going to modify it with another cover I have and take off that stupid *** clear thing. But I do believe they should have to pay for there product that damaged ANOTHER of there products.

And for future reference you can enter your Z's VIN into the Nissan's database on your receipt at the Nissan dealership to help verify you purchased said part(s). Yes, it Nissan's dime that should be paying for the paint, the cover, and the rental car while yours is in the paint shop. Being on Guam I believe there's only one Nissan dealer. Don't let them d!ck you around. Definitely, call Nissan Consumer Affairs Department Service and start a case (800) 647-7261. Don't wait for the dealer to get back to you before doing this. Keep the car cover until final resolution as it is evidence. If they want it back, make sure your car is fixed to your satifaction, and they have refunded your money. Again, keep Nissan Corporate in the loop throughout the process.

well my car is to be repaired on monday 27th. Something im a little mad about though is that the parts manager is actually trying to keep me from telling the Nissan Corporate Customer Service. I had mentioned the information i had gotten from the forums about it, and it turned out that he hadnt even bothered to call nissan about the issue yet (had been 3 days at this point) even though i have a time restraint of another upcoming underway. He also cleverly dodged the part i had added about how i should be reimbursed for the cost of the product MADE by nissan that had damaged my NISSAN car....... im not really liking the trend i have been seeing with this cars service so far. They are very lacking on knowledge about ANYTHING pertaining to the vehicle they sell/service. And whenever a problem comes up it turns into a big ******* deal every time that takes 3 weeks to resolve because its mysteriously the "first" time its ever happened even though i go on the internet and can find 9 billion other people with the same ******* problem. No one knows ANYTHING about the damn car, they just know the basics.....like they read the brochure or something. "well sir, its red, it has 350 hp, gets 19-26mpg, and it has a syncro rev match technology!!" and thats about as far as there knowledge goes. Not sure i should even ******* LET nissan touch the car for anything other then an oil change because im pretty sure they learn something new about the car every time they work on one (thats a bad thing btw). If a product manufactured by a company especially as prestigious as NISMO damages something its specifically designed for, it should without question immediately be repaired/replaced and the defective product should be paid for out of pocket by nissan. Problem is, i dont know how to convey this to them without....how do i say this..... burning bridges? Even though the guy is lookin out for nissan a little more then he should...cough cough.... he has on multiple occasions got me parts at the price that HE has to pay for it so i dont have to pay those rediculous prices on there stupid web page for all those parts. How do i tell this guy i want him to fix my car, and give me my money back (while keeping the cover) without sounding like an ***. On the other hand..... this ***** getting old.

the car is now repaired, and they did a great job on refinishing and painting the rear bumper. But there is a bad part to all this. They refuse to refund my money for a faulty product, and are somewhat against the idea of informing the customer service thing of the problem with the cover....... im kinda curious as to why? why would they want other people to have the same problem in the future by not getting it fixed at its source? Its not like there service quality is in question..... dealerships arent even directly responsible for things nissan even make! since there not goin to pay for it, i will keep the cover..... any ideas how i could just modify the part on the back (remove the clear part) because the rest of the cover is literally perfect.
