Functional Carbon Front Splitter *Interest Thread*

Hi everyone,

We are contemplating the idea of making a splitter and a diffuser for the 370z.

The splitter will be fully functional (to create downforce) and we will try to make it look as good as possible.

It will be made of carbon fiber and a foam core. It has proved to be a strong and lightweight way of making carbon parts. We have stood on the diffusers and they have barely any flex. This method has already proved to be strong from the diffusers that our source makes for the FXMD team.

We can have custom sizes made.

Feedback before we start making them:

1. Would there be any interested in buying these?

2. How much would you be willing to pay for this?

3. Should fiberglass options be made to cut cost?

Thanks,
Mike

I know this source and if he is designing it, I can say with all confidence that this will be a FULLY functional piece. Not a fake functional piece that only looks the part. I hope to see this come to fruition, although I can't say I will personally buy one since my Z doesn't see track time anymore.

kenchan 12-03-2010 03:43 PM

i would have to see how it looks (front splitter). i motor my Z only on the streets so it's more of a cosmetics enhancement than function.

personally i like how the Z looks up front in stock form + CF fangs.

RedBullRR 12-03-2010 04:25 PM

In for Pics, hard to make a choice on something with no visual.

209Z 12-03-2010 04:56 PM

trust me there will be plenty of interest. But we need a semi visual to give you estimate in what we are looking to pay for it.

christian370z 12-03-2010 07:32 PM

This could be a winner if it is subtle and you build a rear diffuser (functional) that ties in with the front diffusers down force.

M.Bonanni 12-03-2010 07:39 PM

You guys are missing the point. Function over form. It should not be subtle and it will likely not fall into most people's "looks" category.

any chance to make one that can be taken on and off easily?

I cant do any sorta lip/diffuser with my drive way but would otherwise love one.

wolf370z 12-03-2010 11:55 PM

I am certainly interested in this kind of product.

Bster 12-04-2010 12:26 AM

Interested!

209Z 12-04-2010 12:51 AM

i like form better =]

StealthZ 12-04-2010 11:51 AM

i would be interested

God-Speed 12-04-2010 12:28 PM

:iagree: I am with the other as well. Very interested!!!

Guard Dad 12-04-2010 12:59 PM

As always, the devil is in the details but I'm interested. A fiberglass piece would be my choice.

370z TT 12-06-2010 09:47 AM

I'm interested as long as its functional, but what would be the price?

ChrisSlicks 12-06-2010 10:48 AM

You should make a fiberglass version for the show cars and a CF version for the go cars.

You will probably sell twice as many of the fiberglass units.

Raven 12-06-2010 05:28 PM

id be interested! maybe you guys can come up with a rendering of what it might look like...

corner3garage 12-06-2010 06:41 PM

will work on it asap!

christian370z 12-06-2010 11:12 PM

I hope it doesn't look too extreme i.e. extending far in front of the front bumper, but I know functionality might dictate otherwise.

Ron 12-06-2010 11:26 PM

I'm in for a rear diffuser that fits the nismo. At least a CF cover for the stock one lol. If u build it they will come.. :D

travisjb 12-06-2010 11:40 PM

I'm glad you're doing this. I'm all set for splitter and rear diffuser, as I've gone the 1-off route... wasn't patient enough to wait for someone to create a true functional set... here's some design inspiration for the rear diffuser

FYI - early testing on this diffuser seems to indicate that I'm not picking up much if any downforce. Will do some data-logging on it soon... But without supporting aero, it's not producing much benefit. Just something to think about...

I have a functional front splitter as well that is held up by a custom sub-frame and 4 quick release latches + 2 struts. That works pretty well for me and the struts are probably redundant even with the ~5in lip at track speeds.

that rear diffuser is mean a$$ hell.

travisjb 12-07-2010 08:10 AM

thanks. overkill for street car, but perhaps it can be dialed back a notch and used by the OP as design inspiration if people like it

God-Speed 12-07-2010 08:21 AM

Here another idea for diffuser!

TipsZ 12-07-2010 04:01 PM

The goal was to make it functional for track duty only and sized for this car - the fact that it came out looking big and beautiful was a bonus, lol

It will of course 'look smaller' once I have it powder coated in flat black

Yep I know. :) I was suggesting something a bit more agressive than the stock or at least a fancy Cf cover.

chrisbeltre 12-26-2010 09:36 AM

I am also interested, I would prefer the CF piece myself.

Bster 01-10-2011 04:24 AM

Any word on this?

I used this surprising utility drm-removal and used it for removing drm from itunes protected audios a years ago, it did it well, btw. Then I bought mp3 player and it could't play my wma files so I decided to convert wma to mp3 with drm-removal. It works perfect! Just in a few clicks, you only need to click "Add" button and choose the folder of wma files. They will convert all the tracks simultaneously at a really high speed. If you have the same problem and need to convert wma to mp3, you should try drm-removal!
I am big fan of audiobooks and actually wonder, if it legal. I bought a book (now its mine!) from napster, but may be its drm and I can't copy it to my MP3 player!! Thats ****!! I can remove drm - but what about legacy?

thanks in advance!

Really? I didn't even know there was such a thing. Would I be able to send you a private jet to pick you up and send you to my castle to show me? I have every song ever produced but all in wma format, so I cannot record them on my mp3 player. Please, I will give you 26 gold bars if you do this for me, plus 2 elephants as a thank you.

NewYorkJon34 01-17-2011 11:43 PM

Any updates on the aero pieces?

G Fo12ce 01-18-2011 12:27 AM

Mike if you end up wanting to look at the Nismo front and rear I'm local, PM me.

corner3garage 01-18-2011 12:43 PM

^thank you sir! we are actually trying to find something we can do that looks good and satisfies the functional side of the puzzle.

kenchan 01-18-2011 12:50 PM

^^ do you have any rendering yet of this diffuser? :) (still in the market for a nice looking front lip).

TypeOne 01-18-2011 01:07 PM

I want a rear diffuser... but just for it to look cool. :-P

Some of my favorite pieces...
