Red lights on bottom of door panels

So the Zs have a red reflector looking thing on the bottom of the door panels. Are these supposed to be working lights for when the doors are open? And if not has anyone thought of making them work? Just curious why they would be there if not to light up. Are mine just broken?

I figured that if you have parked on the street and you have the door open at night the reflector helps alert passing drivers.

Naw - just reflectors. I'm sure someone has modified these into working lights.

i think i saw someone here in the interior section mention this about wiring lights to them. cant remember exactly but i think JDM Z's do light up...(?)

the ones in the JDM Z's don't light up sadly.
