ok, so who has one of these installed? i know quite a few of you do! am i retarded or something, because the collar will NOT screw into the knob. im waiting on a pm from thirdgearperformance but i figured id post up, maybe someone else someday will have the same issue. the threads screw in maybe once or twice then stop. i've tried everything aside from vice grips to screw this darn thing in and it wont budge! none of the threads look stripped or otherwise unusual on the collar nor the inside of the knob...am i missing something here?

I had no problem with mine. Did you try any grease or other lubricant? Can you get a picture of the threads inside the knob?

After you install it....check to see if it rattles. When I hit past 5000 RPM's...there is a rattling sound coming from the shift knob that I cant seem to locate nor get rid of.
Thanks. |

If its not, maybe the knob is larger than the shift rod? I'd say try and get some plumbers tape and wrap it a few times to close that gap... Maybe that would help?

The rattle seems to be under the shift knob, at least on mine. One of these days I'll pull the knob off and put some kind of soft washer under the boot to stop it. I think the stock knob sat a little lower, and pressed down on the washer under the openning of the boot.

If people are experiencing a rattling at the upper RPM range...I think that its in the shifters design. The area right before the threaded area...is a little too narrow and lightly touches the shifter at high RPM's...I think. Not the attachment piece...the main shift knob has a small "dead" area before the threads. I think that it is somewhere in here......just cant locate it.
I have used electrical tape at the bottom....taped the threads to mitigate metal to metal contact...and it still vibrates. Took off the shift knob and floored it and I didnt hear the vibrations. So it must be in the shifter. I just cant seem to isolate it. Hopefully someone can locate this rattling if it is indeed my shift knob. |
