Power Window Help!!

Does anyone know what controls the auto function on our power windows? Is it the switch or the motor? My dealer cant fix my car they have replaced the motor and now they say its the switch. My car wont accept the window programming on my pax door to auto open and close fuction, but the motor works otherwise. I did ALL the programming suggestions on the forum and none worked. Thanks for the help

Well, you asked if someone knows, and iI cannot say i do. However, if the normal up/down functions are OK (the problem is only with the window 'auto' function when the door is opened?), it seems that both the switch and the motor are OK. Sounds like a problem with the Body Control Module. I'm surprised a dealer would not have the diagnostic gear to pinpoint that immediately.

Yes its only the auto function, when the door is opened the window lowers but when the door is closed the window does not come up automatically. Also the full auto up and down function does not work. Did not know this went thru the BCM , thanks for the info

try the window switch, replace it with a known good one. this is simpler than they are making it out to be.

You say you tried everything. I assume you've done this:

Have the car turned off.
Press the ignition twice to get into ON mode, but don't depress the clutch (Don't start the car)
Using the window switch, fully lower each window and then fully raise it back up.
Push ignition once to turn off the ignition.
Start car normally, windows should be reprogrammed.

Thanks Spearfish, tried this again and it did not work, by the way I travel to your city frequently and love it specially the food.

When using spearfish's directions you have the hold the switch in the up position for 5 seconds after the window is all the way to the top. Make sure you pull the switch up all the way (2nd position).

turbodog 11-18-2010 09:59 AM

2nd ChrisSlick's instructions. Mine was exactly the same when delivered. Go thru the initialization sequence exactly. Make sure you keep holding the switch fully in the 'up' position for 5 sec after the window is all the way up. Worked for me.

spearfish25 11-18-2010 11:18 AM

Forgot about that tidbit. Thanks for including it.

PR, my wife and I love Puerto Rico. Maybe I'll plan a trip and reset your windows for you :).

Actually, you're supposed to hold the button in the down position for a few seconds (you'll hear a click). Then close the window and hold in the up position. Only go to the first click. Don't go to the auto position on the switch. If this doesn't work, try a full reset. Hold the button in the down position for twenty seconds, then close the window and hold for another twenty. The most important is to not put the button to the auto position.
I did it a gazillion times this summer the resets always worked.

Tried this and it did not work, I am positive there is something wrong with this besides programming. I just hate the dealer, they dont know anything and do not have any parts, every thing has to be ordered (from japan) and it takes forever. Just wish I could tell them what was wrong so they order it and get it over with, I guess I will have to wait for the switch and see what happens.

Hmmm, let us know what it turns out to be. My symptoms started about a week after deilvery but the "power window hokie pokie" worked for me.

That's a bummer. I assume there is only one dealer there?

Its not the only one, but its the largest and the only certified to service the GTR (and I think its the best one). Talked to the service manager yesterday and he said they got it to work with a switch of from a new roadster, but sice the P/N were not the same (according to him) they orderer the correct P/N for my car. Will let you guys know.:ugh2:

Window problem

I had the window operation problem this week after the car was frozen overnight and me trying to get it open when still frozen.
I did the windows down and back up then hold switches for 5 seconds trick mentioned on here and it all reset itself.
Many thanks for the heads up lads.

Finally the power window switch for the passeger door was replaced, and everything is working fine. There is a circuit board with some chips on the switch assy that control the auto functions of the power windows. So if ALL programming attempts fail (like in my case) you probably have a bad switch.:ugh2:

It's been an interesting week for me an my Z.. First the 1/4 tank fuel starve and today the windows flaked-out. This worked like a charm though, thanks guys !

It sounds like your window motor just needs to be reset. I know from first hand experience if the battery is ever disconnected this happens. Try this, get in the car, roll the windows all the way down, then back up and continue holding up for about 5 seconds after the window reaches the top. You can do both windows at the same time or one at a time. Hope this fixes the problem. Keep us updated.

Nismo221 04-13-2011 09:18 PM

sorry guess I should read to the bottom of the theard before posting lol. But if you ever have this problem this trick will work. The dealer told me on the phone it would take 2 hours to fix and cost $80-$100. When I went up there the mechanic showed me this trick!

kenchan 04-14-2011 07:13 AM

Yah whenever the switch control on the door is unplugged from its harness you need to do this.

Some cars are smart and tell you on the display to reset the windows (and how to), ours, not so much.

Amazingz03 04-16-2011 06:21 PM

I had the same problem today after i got my car back from the collision shop.. My driver side window wouldnt go up after i closed the door. I did the 5 sec reset and it worked like a charm. I love forums. 99.99999% of the time its better to do research here then go to a f-in dealership.

and props to you for doing your research rather then just taking it straight to the dealer!

Couldn't figure this out for a half hr after replacing my door speakers, i thought i would have to go to the dealer. Went on the forums and it took me less than 5 min. This forum is great.

EVOHUNTER 07-22-2011 01:41 PM

Door open, turn to " on " postion..close the door... roll the window down more than half way - roll it back up and hold for 5 seconds. then release

NismoZ370 07-25-2011 01:22 PM

i unplugged the battery this weekend and i have this problem i will try the reset trick on my lunch break and am also glad i looked on here before going to the STEALERSHIP!

Just wanted to say thanks to spearfish25 and ChrisSlicks! My passenger side window wasn't going up on auto, but using that technique, the problem was resolved inside a minute! Great advice!!!
