Leather/suede interior protectant?
My 370Z is on order to arrive in May.
The dealer will offer to apply some leather protectant (and provide you a spare bottle) to the seats etc. but they charge a lot for this...this will only be my second vehicle with leather seats; last time I paid for this dealer applied protectant but I think its probably a big rip-off and you can do it yourself. What is a good DIY leather/suede interior protectant product? I have looked at various auto parts stores and there are a few leather cleaner and/or conditioner products offered, but I wasn't sure what is good. I didn't see this covered anywhere. I'm sure there are a bunch of experts on this topic here. Thanks. |

The suede is faux micro-suede. Lexol makes great leather conditioner, but Leatherique absolutely trumps them all!

I was looking to protect the leather seats as well, cracking leather from heat or use is
something I'd like to avoid. Anybody else used Lexol or Leatherique? Thoughts? Anyone have personal experience with products and could offer recommendations? Quote:

Used the two Lexols on the leather in my RSX. My leather looked like new when I traded it in for my Z. 4 years isn't a lot but I liked it. Not saying something better isn't out there but the Lexol was good. I like how it goes on/gets applied. Without going out to look, one's a cleaner and the other a conditioner?

No. Leatherique is by far the best you can use. I've many, including Lexol, and none come close.

What about the faux micro-suede? Whats the best way to clean that? I have the white leather and this was the first thing on my mind. Whats the best way to clean it without discoloration? It's flawless now and I'd like to keep it that way.

I use 303 fabric guard. Spray and let dry. After that just wipe with damp cloth if dirty. Reapply 2-3 times a year.

leatherique kit via autogeek.net
Leatherique leather care & restoration products are available in the Leatherique 16 ounce kit! Clean leather seats with leatherique! and if you go to the drop down menu and find 303 products, selenct 303 aerospace protectant. Both products are great at protecting the surfaces, and leatherique is just about as good as you can get for leather care. |

recommendations for something you can pick up at an Auto Zone or other? Surely there is something that does a good job that you don't have to internet order |

Those products clog the pores of leather and or seal the leather so it can't breath, which promotes premature drying and cracking. The little extra for a quality product is worth it, don't you think?

for suede i use a hot mildly soaped damp cloth (mostly water) to clean it.
this stuff is pretty light so you can use it on suede (use only a little) and quite a bit on your regular leather seats. dries matte and smells nice. Leather Care Spray - Interior Detailing - Car Care - Griot's Garage Last edited by kenchan; 03-29-2010 at 03:00 PM. Reason: linky fixed |
