Does this sound right (half front bumper repaint)?

This morning I scraped the front bumper on the driver's side where that hard crease is going over the wheel well. Was pulling out of the garage and caught the lip as I turned. I took it in for a quote at lunch, they told me that they would pull the bumper off, remove the burger, strip half the bumper and redo it to match the unstripped half.

This place has a quite a few good reviews locally so that's why I went there, but for this work they've estimated $495 (~350 labor, ~120 paint/supplies, the rest misc. charges and tax). Does that sound reasonable?

He also told me they'd put on a new chin spoiler (mine is all chewed up along the bottom and loose on one side from scraping), and he said they'd want another $300 (quoted $272 for the new spoiler) for that but I think I'm just going to have them take it off and toss it in the garbage when they are fixing the bumper.

Should I go somewhere else and get another estimate or do these numbers sound okay?

Im not a paint guy but i would say always go to 2 or 3 different places, and figure out which body shop will actually turn your car around on time... and the way you want... etc... and i wouldn't do just half, i would have them do the whole thing and blend it into the hood and fender, only way to make it look like a non patch job, especially with any flake/pearl...

You can buy a new chin spoiler for around $150 and have it installed or do it yourself and save $. Just have them shoot the bumper and install it yourself. Save $ man, the bumper is so easy to install, even a cave man can do it. ;)

I find it hard to believe they can get half a bumper to match the other half. When I had a scratch on my new bumper that was installed after my accident, they stripped and re-sprayed the entire bumper to fix it.

They should paint the entire front bumper!

Most places will paint only what is needed and then clear coat the entire panel.
I got three estimates today because my girlfriend backed into my car this morning.
This is how all of them said that they would do it. The one that I chose said that they guarantee their work for the life of the vehicle.

Yakz,
Sounds a bit high to me.
The other posters are correct...get additional quotes or consider doing some of the DIY work to save some bucks.

I had my rear bumper done for 400. They painted the scratch and cleared the rest.

I couldn't even get mad at her. She was shaking and crying so bad you would've thought she ran over a puppy.

About the front chin spoiler, Ive seen a thread a while back where somebody took a piece of sandpaper and sanded down their chewed up chin spoiler, then ran over it again with a really fine grit sandpaper. The end product came out pretty nice and will save you some money.
