hahah amuse ftw :). when did u get ur kit? i can't wait til mine comes in.

Where did you buy your Amuse Kit from??? I have had mine for over a week now. Already took first place in a car show here in Houston hahahaha

i've been looking thru the forums and i mostly see.. well only seen people with 09 models with the problems. idk if the springs are diff;( i'll bring it in later and see whassup

haha nismo if nissan is gonna make me pay for new springs then imma just do the penny trick. 2cents and 5 min to fix instead of 100$+ (just throwing in a random number haha idk the price)

it's underwarranty but ive read quite a bit of people having the same problem even with the new springs from the TSB after a couple of months.

just do the penny trick. it's been over a year i did it. no issue on mine.

haha alright so basically i jsut remove the springs on the hatch and stick a penny in before i put em back in/

kenchan 11-04-2010 01:38 PM

yep, 1/4 turn twist to remove the spring assembly from the gate, unlatch and pull down the boot to remove the top part, take the physical spring out, drop a few pennies in there 2-3, put the spring back in, pull up the boot to latch to the top piece, twist it back on the gate. can't get any easier. :D

i didn't come up with this trick. i just saw it somewhere and tried it. works great. :p

I was at the dealer today and noticed that the Nismo Z has a couple transparent rubber pieces about 1/4" thick glued to the opposite side of the car where the springs hits. I believe due to the extra weight of the Nismo spoiler, Nissan adds these to Nismo cars to prevent the problem even with the fixed springs.
This is similar to adding pennies method which gives more pressure to the springs.
I prefer the rubber way or add rubber washers to the springs instead of pennies since pennies can rattle and add more noise to the already noisy Z.

haha thanks guys.

well i stopped by nissan like 30 min ago. they told me that they'll just fix it for me for free. since it's under warranty :)

kenchan 11-04-2010 03:50 PM

ltp- LOL. the pennies do not rattle as there's pre-load from the physical spring inside.

and when the hatch is shut, obviously there's much more load. :D

You have to be careful not to put more than 3 or else you can warp the hatch however.

I had a consistent problem when I got my car (used 19k miles) and put the pennies in, it was fine for a few months, just had my first failure. Naturally I was balancing a pile of loose posters in one hand while trying to open the hatch with the other :/

I'll give it a few more failures before I take the pennies out and go for Nissan's fix.
