bump... didn't know if anyone has done this mod yet.
|
still wondering if anyone has done this to the 370 map lights....
|
I'm going to swap out the map lights with some LEDs as well. But as far as I can tell the sylvania guide does not list the map light part number and there's nothing in the service manual. Guess we just have to pull them out and look.

WLED - XHP would be type of bulb to buy on the superbrights website for the LED map light replacement bulb.
|
Crap, that reminds that I fell short with DIGItonium's request to measure and photograph the map light innards. He's getting his Z today so maybe he'll post on this thread. He's also making high-end LED setups for the 370Z.

[Looks at clock...] It's 12:37AM on a week night, so I need to catch up to some sleep. If you guys check out my photo album I've got the license plate and trunk lights done. I'll try to find some time to work on the trunk lights this week. IIRC, manual illustration points out to 194 type bulb. Stay tuned... |

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/6394/bulbservice.jpg The owners manual at least gives the wattage: http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/1315/bulbowners.jpg |
Hm? It's the same bulb type as license plate, trunk, and parking light. Same socket, different wattage rating.
Here's the DIY thread: http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...html#post61231 |

But my point was the bulb type isnt documented anywhere. |
so then its the same bulb we use on the license plate, but why does it say 8watts....wtF?
|
Bulb documentation has always been vague with Nissan documents, and I never figured out why. I hate having to pull stuff apart and reassemble prior to ordering parts and making LED bulbs.
As for 8W, just like your ordinary household bulbs you can get different ratings for them. However, don't get bulbs whose ratings exceed the original. We don't know if the socket can handle higher wattage, nor would the wires support higher current. Anyhow, with my LED bulbs, here's the estimated wattage: License Plate - 1W Trunk Light - 4W Map Light - 1.2W (using 350mA BuckToot driver) |
