Good News Bad News on Rock Chips
 

Well i've had my car since May and i knew it wasn't if but when i would get that first rock chip. Well it happened today can't say how or when but it's there right on the front edge of the hood. Good news is it's not very bad. Maybe less then a 1/4 inch. So anyway took it to my dealership and ordered
the touch up paint to match 8 bucks not bad. And the guy at the body shop told me when it came in he would touch it up at no charge. Guess i better save the paint though!!!!

I had something similar happen to my car and just ordered some paint online from Touch Up Paint Online - Remove Car Scratches. it came in a small bottle and I used a toothpick to put the paint onto the really small rock chips. It actually worked really well and the paint match was perfect. If the body shop can do it, then let them fix it for you.

I have some Langka and it works best on light colored paint.

I suggest 3M clear bra....Just had my car done a few weeks ago! :tup:

$950 is cheap, the quote I got from the Dealer I bought the car was $1850 for Venture Sheild. I also got another quote from a shop that installs 3M and Venture Sheild for $1200.

950!!!!! I had it applied 2 times (previous cars, $800 is the most I payed). The 370z cost me $650 bucks. 3M on the Headlights (Custom), Front bumper (custom except where the fangs are, that was another separate piece), mirrors, approx 1/3 of the hood, and fenders. The job was perfect, (the best out of the 2 times I had it done, wrapped the edges, everything lined up and symmetrical, etc etc). Payed $650. He was the best installer I have used and he will do my next car/cars. He does the porsches at the local porsche dealership.

That being said I would never get it done at the dealership. They mark up the price way to high. I would research who the best is in your area among the forums and local reputation. I wasn't happy with the last job I had done with a previous installer. It took me a while to find my new guy, and his work spoke volume. A+

Price should be between $650 and $800, depending on what you get done. He did give me the option for full hood and full fenders, and of course that costs more. I don't mind the "strip" across the fender and hood.

You need to invest in a clear bra. Prices vary alot by area and skill level of the installer, so do your research. Do not turn someone down just because they charge 100 more dollars then the guy setup in a parking lot down the road. That being said, any clear bra installer that knows cars will tell you that the 370s have very soft paint and are almost not worth putting a bra on after the car has a few thousand miles on it because it will show all of the paint flaws.
