Butt plug removal
HA! Bet that got your attention! I need to remove the black plug where the center fog light mounts. I see a black fastener underneath and I tried to pry the center out thinking that it is that type fasterner, but I was afraid I would break it. Is this what I need to remove to get the plug out and if so, how do you easily remove it. I am getting the rear valence covered in black vinyl on Monday and I want to take it out so that they can cover all of the paint that could be seen.
Thanks, AZ

I got excited for moment
The plastic fasteners have a pop up head, you need a small screwdriver to pop them up. on the back of the dummy light their are two 10mm nuts Try spraying the two 10mm nuts with lube, and use a heat gun to melt the loctite they use on the threads. If you're not careful the stud will break loose, and start turning while you're trying to remove the 10mm nuts. This is what happened to me, and I had basically destroy the dummy light lens to drill a hole to access the head of the studs to clamp needle nose vise-grips to keep from spinning while trying to remove the 10mm nuts. |

remember the fastener has to be half way poped out and then pull from the base of the fastener or else it wont wiggle out at all...

the plastic tab is probably seized with sand and other debris. best to take a screw driver and gently pry while you giggle it around to get the sand loose. it should pop out after a couple of tries.
i'd like to warn that dummy lamp is nearly impossible to remove without destroying the stud loose and cutting the nut. |

I'd suggest getting some replacements for those "pop" retainers. The one on the lower part gets very brittle.
I used penetrating oil (come on you pervs) on the two nuts (oh crap), then turned them very slowly. If you try to turn them rapidly, you'll spin the studs. |
