I am not sure. You are right the math does not add up. 3.05 oz is 86.5 gr. I would contact them to be sure.

Does anyone have any experience in dealing with Shift Solutions? Also, anybody from hot areas like AL, MS, TX, or anywhere else have a wrinkle powdercoated metal shift knob? I'm curious how much the coating helps. Thanks in advance.

TWM vs PW JDM
I picked up a TWM Piston recently. I already have a PW JDM and have been eyeing a new knob. This was noticeably heavier (and shorter) and took some getting used to given its shape (compared to the PW JDM). I ordered it without the shift pattern engraved but received one with the it anyway. TWM either did not pay attention or just shipped whatever they had in stock.
Is it worth the $40.00 difference? Meh not completely. You could say TWM took great pains to design this and have great adjustability but the extra difference in weight was not worth it. Although subjective -- it does look better. You decide. With a stainless steel collar/finisher. I bought a new knob because the top insert in my stock knob kept creaking. I figured if I was going to take it off to tighten the screw on the insert I might as well just buy a new knob.
I went with a Billetworkz custom delrin knob. It is a little shorter than the stock shift knob and about half of the weight (3.4oz compared to 7.2oz of the stock knob). Since it is shorter, I had to order a Z1 knob finisher to take up some of the space and help with the mating between the bottom of the knob and top of the boot. I had to add another 3/8" worth of rubber washers in the top of the boot to get them to take up the rest of the space. However, the throw still seems a little bit shorter even though the knob doesn't sit as low as it absolutely could. Because it is a hard plastic, it is not as comfortable moving into a different gear compared to the softer feel of the leather wrap of the stock. The low weight probably doesn't help with that much, either. I think it looks pretty good in the end, though. The matte black of the knob looks good in the interior of the car. It at least matches all of the Weather Tech I have on the floors right now. |

Do you always have to add things below the boot to close the gap? I purchased a weighted BLOX knob, and the Z1 ring. The ring just flops around, and there is still a gap between the ring and the knob.

I tried a few knobs,my best solution ended up being the cheapest.Settled with the JDM Password stainless knob.Initially it felt a little on the small side, but once I adjusted to that I actually like the size of it,quite heavy. The Lathe Werks round knob never felt right in my hands,Southbend Clutch Aluminum knob felt pretty good, but was a little too big and had not much weight to it.For the installation I cut the threads down on the shift lever and countersunk the knob to get it as low as possible and put in a leather shift boot.

best shift knob
Just thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead instead of starting a new one. I guess it will always remain relevant.
I just ordered a new shift knob from WC LatheWerks. I ordered the Titanium piston in the brushed silver finish. I just found it looks like a fine piece of jewellery in the photographs and I like the fact it's made out of Ti. https://www.lathewerks.com/350z-370z...hift-knob.html I'll let you know what I think once I get it. PS: I presently have the PWJDM V2 Stainless sphere. I like it but I do find it kind of small and looks slightly out of place in my Nismo interior. I did like the OEM shift knob but the buzzing at high rpm was driving me up the wall. At least I managed to remove it without any damage.

I actually just got my shift knob in from Lathe Werks and it's amazing. The weight is 465 grams which is a little heavier than the M1 Abrams from TWM. I got the gun metal finish and boy oh boy shifting with this thing is a treat. It sits really low since the threads don't start until about halfway into the shift knob. Customer service was A++ as well so if anyone wants quality and has the extra penny, get one from Lathe Werks. The owner does everything himself so you know you are getting something good.

Looks nice!
Still waiting for mine, unfortunately. Chris let me know ahead of time that it would take longer than 2 weeks to make due to a production backlog and the company is a one man show. I agreed since I think it will be worth it in the end. Can’t wait to get mine.

best shift knob
Well, it’s now the 3 week mark and nothing. The shift knob has not shipped yet as promised. I will give it another week and then we’ll see what my options are.
