My custom overflow tank... :D SIMOTA1
hey everyone.... from time to time my dad lets me keep scraps of aluminum from jobs we have that deal with aluminum... anyways.... i never really had a use for it from time to time il make brackets for friends and my own lil projects :tup: last week a buddy of mine asked me if i could make an overflow tank for his g37 and i said maybe.... i never really fabricated anything this tedious.... the amount of bends our reservoir tanks have are so much, some being completed useless.... i didnt wanna tackle the job.... but i saw an overflow tank forsale in the classifieds and even if the price was ok and the welds look flawless i didnt wanna shell out that much for a cosmetic piece... so i made my own.... some things i paid close attention too for my tank is the channels which the hoses pass through and the types of fittings it had and more importantly a put a level so you know the level of the reservoir :D :happydance: so heres a couple pics.... hope you guys enjoy them i had a blast building this tank... i even made a cover for the fuse box outa the left over from building the tank hahhah
Early stages.... http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590320 http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590324 http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590329 Half way there :D http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590546 http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590548 http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590551 FINISHED!!!! or well its missing powdercoating http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590633 http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590635 http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590648 http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590639 http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/z...g?t=1285590630 :tup: not to shabby for a 23 year old ;) :happydance::happydance::happydance: |

those are some huge welds brol
|
lol that's what i said :rofl2:
good work though. hope you did an inspect on those welds to make sure there's no big porosities or something that can lead to leaks! did you do a pressure test or anything on it? (sorry, i'm an engineer too, first thing i think when i see humongous weld beads on a liquid container is 'oh god i hope it doesn't leak') |

i believe is 4043 LOL i have no idea they only sell one type of aluminum filler rod on island.... straight up butt weld bro =] no need for the bevel... i used only 1/8 thick aluminum.... my tig penetrated it with ease :D i only bevel when i usually weld 1/4 and thicker aluminum which im super used to welding... making the tank was like shooting in the dark... i knew only half what i was doing hahahahahahh.... and yes tig weld.... i love how much control you have on the tig... you can adjust the heat and everything... i dont really use mig for aluminum i usually end up with crappy welds with a crap load of phorosity ahahahah i think im just doing it wrong with the mig though... :icon14: i just finished using a small filler rod :tup: all i can say is i should used a stupid smaller rod hahahahahah i welding a exhaust for an rc car.... the welds are tiny lol |
would anyone be interested in these tanks if i could produce them? ive been talking to my dad and he said he can make the jigs and bender so there would be less welds... and of course i would use a smaller filler rods :p so the welds wont be so huge.... if we get enough people.... at least ten... i will sell the overflow tanks at $180 already powdercoated.... :tup: i think thats a pretty badass price considering that its like 1/4 the price of the arc... tell me wat you guys think.... minimum of 10 orders for this to happen....:tup:
