seat comfort - roadster? base? touring?
I've been lurking on this site for quite a while now and am getting ready to make a decision on a 370z.
I recently test drove a 2010 roadster and noticed that the seat bolsters were pretty tight. Im only 5'11 165lbs and they seemed too tight for me. im not interested in the roadster but its all they had at the dealer. I want a coupe sport, not sure on base or touring (seats being the deciding factor). Also, i noticed that the head rests were different on the 2010 roadsters than the coupe. This will be my daily driver and i have been wanting/drooling over this car for several months now. I currently drive a mazda6s with leather and the seats seem ok for me, not a whole lot of support but thats ok. With all that said, is there a difference in seat comfort between the 3? I really want this car but it needs to be at least somewhat comfortable to drive daily. I have done an exhaustive search on this site and didnt find much on the difference in comfort between the three types, only if they were comfortalbe for daily driving. I plan on taking some test drives this weekend, but this has been bugging me all week. Thanks in advance, hopefully i will become a proud owner soon..... |

I bought a new '09 base last fall. For the first month or six weeks, the seat bottoms were very uncomfortable on my bottom---too narrow and the sides pushed up against me. I even had a chiropractor check the seats ( and me) to try to analyze the problem. Short answer is that after about six weeks, the discomfort waned and then disappeared. Also, I slid over to the right just a couple of inches and it made a difference. But there is no problem at all now and when I was satisfied that I was going to keep the car, I had Katzkins leather installed and everything is fine.
I can't tell you if the Touring or Roadster seats are any different. None of them are particularly supportive and the base seats are, frankly, a bit chincy. But I think you'll be okay with it. |

the seats are definitely bolstered lol. i enjoy them cuz im a thin guy and these have been the first seats that really keep me in place. i could see how these seats can be uncomfortable for avg to larger sized people.

I have a Nismo. I like my seats.
I am actually about the same height as you but I am 20 pounds heavier. I feel like I am being held in place. Much better than the Rsx-s that i had. |

Seat Comfort
I bought a Roadster (Touring + Sport) in June, but test drove a couple of coupes beforehand, and would suggest that the coupe's seats are marginally more comfortable - not because of any less side bolstering, but because I was better able to position them comfortably for my 5' 7.5" 165 lb. frame. I haven't driven a base model, so can't comment there, but think the design/form is much the same sans the leather appointments.
Regardless, you live in Houston; so the air-conditioned "NET" seats of the roadster are a must-have IMO. |

5'10" and 185 and I love the way the touring seats really grip me in. Reminds me of the Ricarro seats I had in my 1982 Scirocco. But I was thinner then...

I sat in the base and touring seats when I was still searching around and I could not be happier with the Touring seats. They are super comfortable and still have all the bolstering you can need, not to mention they look great as well.

I don't have any discomfort with my seat (base), 6'0" and 190 lbs.

I agree, the touring seats are very comfy even after a hard day of carving the Canyons I have no complaints, and I have sat in the base seats so I do know there is a difference.

Love the touring seats! Contour-wise, I don't remember much of a difference between these and the base seats.
But these are all subjective comments. When you test drive, make sure you take it on: (1) a not-very-well-maintained stretch of highway at speeds, and (2) a rough side road. Only you can really make a decision.

I notice on my seats that the frame under the bolster on the left side and the plastic supporting the power adjustments on the right side dig into my thighs through the padding. The car is one month old.
I have a 2010 coupe touring and the plastic digging in to my thigh is driving me crazy. It seems that there is no padding at all there after I go for a drive. The passenger side seems to have a bit more padding, but I can still feel the plastic. I may be going to the dealer soon to see what the deal is. I'm 6'2" and 220 lbs. Everything else fits fine with the seat and is quite comfortable otherwise. Last edited by RELIC; 10-11-2010 at 01:52 AM. |

Must Disagree
With all due respect, I find the seats in my Nismo to be atrocious. Undoubtedly spoiled by the sport seats in my NSXs and 911 Turbos, I find the Nismo seats lack proper lumbar and under-thigh support and have unusual adjustability.
IMHO, the sports seats in my Son's G-37S are superior and should be made available in the Z. |
